Clarkia does not like to be transplanted to it's best to direct seed in very early spring after the threat of frost has passed. These seeds are very small so we mix them with peat, or sand, before sowing to get an even distribution. Sow your seed mix on the surface as they need light to germinate.

You can start them early in pots, but use a peat pot and sow seeds on the surface of your pot and lightly dusty with sand or vermiculite. Transplant the whole pot in spring after your last frost the spring.

These do take a bit longer to flower than our standard "Farwell to Spring" clarkia and are best grown from early spring to early summer as they do not tolerate the high heat of summer.

Clarkia is one of the few flowers that prefers a higher ph.  A ph of 7 or above will create a darker salmon, and a ph closer to 6 will create a lighter salmon color.  We do not recommend planting clarkia if your ph is below 6.
