Philodendron patriciae is a climbing species that produces extremely long, pleated leaves. It is one of the most sought after species within Philodendrons and was only first described in 2010! It is a native species from Choco in Colombia and is notable for its beautiful leaves of extremely intense color.

Care

Humidity and temperature

The wavy leaves in lush hues, makes it a fantastic plant that does well in a variety of environments. In addition, the plant needs only a small amount of water. However, the humidity should be higher than 75% for optimal growth, with preferably a temperature between 18°C and 32°C.

Substrate and drainage

Philodendron Patriciae needs a well-drained soil, where excess water does not accumulate and the roots have room to let air through. A soil that is too compact can damage a plant if too much water is retained. Therefore, a slightly moist and airy soil with a slightly acidic pH of 5-6 is preferred. You can create and refine your own mixture by adding organic materials such as compost, peat or moss. 

Watering and sunlight

This beautiful Philodendron Patriciae wants only moderate water and a little more in summer than in winter. This Philodendron also does not need an extreme amount of indirect light and can survive just fine in a position with shade. The plant will then adapt to variations in sunlight. However, it is very important to keep the plant away from direct and intense sunlight. Too much heat or light is risky, leading to faster water loss through transpiration and evaporation.
