Crassula ovata will generally tolerate the dry environment of heated homes but if kept too hot will go dormant and begin to drop leaves. Jade plants need bright light, but should not be exposed to a lot of direct sun (which may cause leaf scorch). Jade plants adapt well to the warm, dry conditions found in most homes. It’s important to keep the plant watered during the growing season (spring, summer) and drier during the dormant season (fall, winter). However, even during the growing season, the soil should be allowed to dry out fully between waterings, as jade is very susceptible to rot. Jade plant care instructions say that jade plants do best in day time temperatures of 65-75 F. (18-24 C.) during the day and 50-55 F. (10-13 C.) at night.
