Native Cornfield Annuals Mix - Irish Provenance Wildflower Seed

This is an annuals-only mix, meaning it has a one-year life cycle. Expect blooms from 8-10 weeks after planting (if planted in Spring) or the following Summer, if planted in Autumn. If you wish to plant a mixture with the inclusion of these species, that returns year after year, we recommend planting the Native Butterfly and Bee Mix. This is a mixture of both Cornfield Annuals AND Perennial species. The annuals will bloom in year one, while the perennials will begin to bloom for the first time in year two, returning year after year.

All of the seed species in this mixture are from Irish Native Seed and are propagated on the island of Ireland in Co Waterford.

Before the advent of the intensive use of herbicides and pesticides, all of the species in this mixture would have been common weeds in our fields of corn.

This native cornfield annual with intense blue ruffled flower heads is a hardy annual and flowers from June-September. Best sown in cultivated soils receiving direct sunlight, this mix will show colour eight weeks after sowing.

This native cornfield annual mixture is an easy-to-grow alternative to summer bedding plants producing a riot of colour ranging from shades of blue and purple from cornflowers and corn cockle to corn poppies. Some species in this mixture can be purchased separately.

For best results, sow onto prepared, weed-free bare soil. Read our guide to preparing ground for wildflower seeds before you sow.

What is an annual species?

An annual species is a plant that completes its entire life cycle—from germination to flowering, seed production, and death—within a single growing season. Unlike perennials, which return year after year, annuals need to be replanted each year.

In the context of meadow seeds, annual species (like Cornflower, Poppy, and Corn Marigold) provide quick bursts of color but won't regrow the following year unless they reseed naturally. They are often included in seed mixes for instant impact while slower-growing perennials establish.

What is a perennial species?

A perennial species is a plant that lives for multiple years, flowering and producing seeds repeatedly after the first year. Unlike annuals, which complete their life cycle in one season, perennials establish deeper root systems and return year after year.

However, perennials do not typically flower in the same year they are planted. They focus on root and foliage growth in their first year, taking at least one, if not two years, to bloom. Once established, perennials such as Oxeye Daisy, Red Campion, and Meadow Buttercup provide long-term, sustainable wildflower displays. They require less maintenance over time and offer lasting benefits for pollinators and biodiversity.

Great edger
This is a great lightweight and portable edger. It’s much easier to use than a gasoline powered model. The only limiting factor is the length of the electric cord. It does a great job and make sure your driveways and sidewalk look manicured.

Awesome edger
This is our second purchase of this product. We had the first one for over ten years and we ended up breaking it(our fault). Immediately bought same one. This is a reliable machine. It goes right through thick weeds and rock hard dirt to edge a lawn or trench. Like I said our previous one lasted ten years and worked just as well in year ten never replaced the blade once. This one came with a back up blade as well which is a bonus. Highly recommend this. Easy to assemble. Takes five minutes. Durable. Powerful. There is hieght adjustment as well. Well worth the price!

Nice Edger as long as the blade doesn't come loose -- and it will come loose, repeatedly!
Probably could've/should've rated this 2 stars yet it works well when it works. I purchased this edger to edge my drive and sidewalks and not for trenching. The edger arrived very quickly after I ordered it (I am not a Prime member so this was a nice surprise). Assembly was easy and straight-forward. The first use went smoothly and the edger performed flawlessly and provided clean, smooth edging. About 20 minutes into the second use I noticed that the edger was cutting and quickly determined that the blade was spinning freely -- fortunately the hex nut was still attached to the threaded shaft. I reviewed the manual that came with the edger, grabbed the correct sized socket and torque wrench. I removed the hex nut, the first washer, the blade and then the second washer. To install I followed the directions ensuring that the flats of the washer aligned with the flat on the shaft and tightened the hex nut to the specified 140 in-lbs. The edger worked well for about 10 minutes and the blade once again became loose. This time I replaced the original blade (which did not need to be replaced from a wear perspective) with a new B&D blade and new washers. Once again I followed the instructions and this time the edger performed flawlessly until about 5 minutes remaining in my edging when once again the blade came loose. my experience has most certainly been frustrating to say the least. one should not need to carry a socket and torque wrench with them and repeatedly need to tighten the blade. So, when the edger performs as intended it does an excellent job at edging; however I have no confidence that this edger will be able to perform as intended throughout repeated uses and more importantly has shown that it cannot complete my edging without requiring tightening the blade (which requires disassembly down to the second keyed washer). Potential buyers should be prepared for this experience and make your decision accordingly. Note: I tried contacting black and decker via twitter (@blackdeckerhome) and never received a response; I could not find a separate customer service/support twitter account. Trying to contact customer service via the phone these days is an exercise in patience to say the least.

Trimmer results
Was alittle hesitant with this being B&D But I was surprised how great it really is. By far way above my expectations. Works like a charm and does a great job. Chose electric because I really don't have other than a driveway to do. But it really did good around the flower beds. Cord limits you alittle but nothing to cry about. Quiet also but still use ear plugs.
