Organic Alfalfa Meal 2.5-0-2.5 is a finely ground, non-GMO organic soil amendment made from the whole dried alfalfa plant. It supplies modest, slow-release nitrogen and an equal amount of soluble potash (K₂O), adds organic matter, and feeds the beneficial soil microbes that cycle nutrients to plants — which makes it a long-favored choice for roses, vegetable and flower beds, trees and shrubs, and compost activation.

Nutrients become available gradually over roughly 4 to 8 weeks as soil microbes mineralize the meal, so alfalfa meal feeds steadily without the flush-and-crash cycle of soluble fertilizers, and carries low burn risk at recommended rates. Alfalfa meal also naturally contains triacontanol, a long-chain fatty alcohol studied for effects on plant growth — though at practical garden rates its primary value is as a slow-release nutrient source and soil conditioner.

It is best used as a pre-plant, incorporated amendment rather than a quick side-dress feed — work it into the soil and water in, ideally one to two weeks before planting, since decomposition generates heat. It contains no available phosphate, so pair it with a phosphorus source for a complete program. It has a near-neutral to slightly alkaline reaction and is not recommended for acid-loving plants such as blueberries, azaleas, and rhododendrons. Microbial breakdown slows in cold or sterile media. Store sealed and dry. CDFA registered and independently lab tested for heavy metals, with results consistently well below required limits.

An Overview of an Oft-Overlooked History
Format: Kindle
Depending on your ethnicity, you may, or may not, know a lot about Africa. This book summarizes the Continent’s history, highlighting the major events and occurrences that contributed its current geopolitical state. Africa today is made up of 54 countries, 2000 languages, 20% of the Earth's land mass, and 1.4 billion people. It therefore should play an important part in the World, today (which it does, but one that rarely makes the headlines in USA TV or newspaper coverage.) The Author covers, Slavery, European Colonization, Africa’s part in World Wars One & Two, and the various Religious histories going back to the time of Christ. Since the author is American, there is a portion devoted to the USA’s main relationships with different African Nations. All this culminates in a surveillance of the numerous African Civil Wars of the last 50 years leading to the reality of the current geopolitical scene. The section on Dictators and Revolutionaries is limited to one of each. I’m guessing there could have been more. Still, if you are looking for an overview of Africa as it is today and what contributed to its present situation, this is an excellent beginning point.

OK short read
Format: Kindle
Reasonable short read. Have to doubt the facts since the author writes FDR was alive in the 1950's and he leaves out the Haitian genocide in his narrative.

Good general snapshot
Format: Paperback
This book does not serve as an academic textbook, which may not meet your specific needs. For more detailed information or clarification, it would be beneficial to access online resources or consider purchasing a college textbook. It met my needs.

A fascinating read
Format: Kindle
I found Modern Africa to be a fascinating read, because, having grown up in the 80’s, places such as Libya and Ethiopia were always in the news, but I didn’t understand their backstories. Modern Africa does a great job of laying out these stories, but in a way that doesn’t overwhelm the reader. I look forward to reading more from the author! They do a great job of making history relevant and make me want to learn more!
