Heuchera ‘Palace Purple’ – A Classic Beauty with Rich, Dark Foliage

Heuchera ‘Palace Purple’ is a stunning perennial that adds drama and sophistication to any garden with its deep, burgundy-purple foliage. Known for its striking colour and compact, mounding form, it creates a bold visual impact whether planted in borders, containers, or as ground cover. The silvery veining running through the dark leaves adds a beautiful contrast, while delicate, bell-shaped flowers rise on slender stems in late spring, attracting pollinators to your garden. A classic choice for shaded spots, 'Palace Purple' offers year-round beauty with minimal care, making it a must-have for any garden looking to add texture and rich colour.

Why Grow Heuchera ‘Palace Purple’?

Dramatic Purple Foliage – Deep, dark burgundy-purple leaves with a silvery sheen create a striking contrast in shaded or partially sunny spots.

Delicate Flowers – Small, bell-shaped pink flowers on slender stems provide a soft, airy contrast to the bold foliage.

Compact & Low-Maintenance – Its tidy, mounding form makes it perfect for borders, containers, or as a ground cover that requires minimal upkeep.

Year-Round Interest – The striking foliage provides colour and texture from spring through autumn, and even through the winter months in mild climates.

Tolerant & Resilient – Tolerates a range of soil conditions, from well-drained to moderately fertile, and is heat and drought-tolerant once established.

Where to Site Your Heuchera ‘Palace Purple’

Heuchera ‘Palace Purple’ thrives in partial to full shade, though it can tolerate a bit of morning sun. It’s an excellent choice for shaded borders, woodland gardens, or containers where its dark foliage can stand out. Consider planting it in areas where you want to add contrast to lighter-toned plants or use it as a backdrop for brighter blooms.

How to Grow and Care for Your Heuchera ‘Palace Purple’

Soil – Prefers well-drained, fertile soil enriched with organic matter, but it adapts well to a variety of soil types, including slightly acidic or neutral.

Light – Best in partial to full shade. If planted in full sun, ensure it's in a cooler climate or receives some afternoon shade to prevent leaf scorch.

Watering – Water regularly when newly planted, but once established, it is relatively drought-tolerant and requires less frequent watering.

Maintenance:

  • Deadhead Regularly – Remove spent flowers to maintain a tidy appearance and encourage healthy foliage.
  • Cut Back in Late Fall – Trim dead foliage in autumn to make way for fresh growth in spring.
  • Divide Every Few Years – Divide plants every 2-3 years in spring or early autumn to rejuvenate growth and prevent overcrowding.

Perfect Plant Combinations

Heuchera ‘Palace Purple’ pairs wonderfully with other shade-loving perennials like Hostas, Astilbe, Brunnera, and Foamflower (Tiarella), creating a beautiful contrast in a woodland garden. For a striking combination, pair it with plants that have silvery or white foliage, such as Lamb’s Ear (Stachys byzantina) or Dusty Miller (Senecio cineraria), to highlight its dark, rich tones.

Culinary grade matcha. Its okay for mixing in small amounts with other flavors to drink
Flavor Name: Culinary Matcha-3.53oz
I ordered this Matcha for the affordability. The matcha I’ve been drinking is more expensive and as I have been drinking more Matcha lately I wanted to try to get more for my money. Now, I don’t want to sound like a Matcha snob, but I really wasn’t happy with the quality or the taste of this Matcha. It was lower quality than I was expecting. First of all it’s a duller green color, which is just appearance I understand and I can overlook that, but it says something about the quality of the harvest. The taste, however, is much more bitter than I am accustomed to. Not an enjoyable clean Matcha flavor. I have found that it absolutely needs some sweetener and milk to make it passable and I’ve even mixed a little cocoa powder with it to mask the dusty flavor. That helps. Also, it is not ground very finely as other Matcha powders. I can feel the Matcha particulate in the tea when I drink it and it settles to the bottom of the cup very quickly. If you’re going to be cooking with Matcha, then this is fine. Or if you are going to be mixing it with milk and sweetener or other flavors, then this isn’t too bad. But if you like to enjoy the pure flavor of Matcha tea with nothing added to it then I would not recommend this one, it’s pretty harsh. Still, it is very affordable and it can get you through when money is tight.
