About Dypsis decaryi

Dypsis decaryi, commonly known as the Triangle Palm, is a unique and visually striking palm tree native to the island of Madagascar. It is named for the unusual shape of its trunk, which forms a distinct, triangular cross-section. This feature, along with its graceful, arching fronds, makes it a popular choice for tropical and subtropical landscapes around the world.

The Triangle Palm typically grows to a height of 7–15 meters (23–50 feet), with a single, smooth trunk that is often covered with leaf scars. The trunk's triangular shape is most pronounced in younger palms, becoming more cylindrical as the tree matures. The leaves are pinnate, feather-like, and grow in three distinct ranks, which further enhances the plant's triangular appearance. The fronds are a striking blue-green color, with a slight silver hue on the underside, adding to its ornamental appeal.

Architectural Excellence: This palm is also known for its relatively low maintenance and adaptability, making it suitable for both garden planting and container growing. The distinctive triangular trunk provides a striking focal point in any landscape, while the graceful fronds add movement and elegance. Perfect for creating instant tropical ambiance and adding unique visual interest to gardens and estates.

Growing Conditions

Light Requirements

Dypsis decaryi thrives in full sun to partial shade. It prefers bright, direct sunlight for most of the day but can tolerate some light shade, especially in hotter climates. Maximum sun exposure enhances the beautiful blue-green coloration of the fronds.

Temperature Preferences

This palm prefers warm, tropical to subtropical climates, with temperatures between 20–30 °C (68–86 °F). It can tolerate brief periods of cooler temperatures, down to about 5 °C (41 °F), but should be protected from frost. It is suitable for USDA zones 10–11.

Soil Composition

The Triangle Palm prefers well-draining, sandy or loamy soils with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. It can adapt to various soil types, including poorer soils, as long as there is good drainage to prevent root rot. Excellent drainage is absolutely critical for success.

Water Management

Dypsis decaryi is relatively drought-tolerant once established, but regular watering is important, especially during the growing season. Water deeply and allow the soil to dry slightly between watering. Reduce watering during the winter months to prevent overwatering issues.

Planting and Care

Site Selection and Planting

Choose a location with full sun and well-draining soil. If planting in the ground, ensure the site has enough space for the palm to grow without obstruction. For container planting, use a large pot with adequate drainage and a sandy, well-draining potting mix that allows air circulation.

Fertilization Program

Feed the Triangle Palm with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer formulated for palms. Apply fertilizer 2–3 times during the growing season to support healthy growth and vibrant foliage. Avoid over-fertilization, as this can lead to nutrient imbalances and slow growth.

Maintenance Requirements

Little pruning is required beyond removing dead or damaged fronds. The Triangle Palm is generally resistant to pests and diseases, making it a low-maintenance option. However, it is still good to monitor for common palm issues such as scale insects or fungal infections.

Growing from Seeds

Seed Preparation

Triangle Palm seeds can be slow to germinate. To improve germination rates, soak the seeds in warm water for 24–48 hours before sowing. This helps soften the seed coat and activate the embryo for faster and more reliable germination.

Sowing Process

Sow the seeds in a well-draining seed-starting mix, such as a blend of sand, perlite, and peat. Plant the seeds about 1–2 cm (0.5–1 inch) deep and cover lightly with soil. Ensure proper drainage to prevent seed rot during the germination period.

Germination Conditions

Place the seed tray in a warm, humid environment with temperatures around 25–30 °C (77–86 °F). Keep the soil consistently moist, but avoid waterlogging. Germination can take several weeks to several months, so patience and consistent care are essential.

Seedling Care

Once seedlings emerge, provide them with bright, indirect light and gradually acclimate them to more direct sunlight as they grow. Transplant seedlings into larger pots or directly into the garden once they are large enough to handle without damage to delicate leaves.

Not your average Billionaire's Nanny
Format: Kindle
A unique twist on a Billionaires Nanny plot. I was immediately drawn into the story and it kept me guessing on how it would unfold. The chemistry between Tessa, Damien, Theo and Nico was HOT. The spicy scenes were intense and everything you would expect from a Cassie Cole book. I had a difficult time connecting with Tessa. Some of her actions and unexplained entitlement to know everything going on around her seemed off to me but Theo was my absolute favorite.

Hot tamales!
Format: Kindle
So Nico, using food as his love language. Damien, stoic and mysterious. Theo strong and constant. All revolving around Tessa, whose more than just a nanny. Absolutely loved it. Steamy and packed with awe and wonder as they travel the world in the name of art. Couldn't put the story down.

Entertaining Sweet and Steamy Billionaire RH Romance🔥❤️🔥
Format: Kindle
In this entertaining sweet and steamy, billionaire, RH romance Tessa is working as a server at a party for the Hawthorne Conservancy where she meets a cute little girl Tabitha who is going to change her life. After the party Tabitha can't stop talking about Tessa so her father Damian who's a billionaire takes it upon himself to just show up with no warning. The purpose of the surprise visit is to offer Tessa the job as Tabitha's nanny which she really has no chance of refusing. Once Tessa accepts the job she meets Nico the chauffeur as well as Theo the head of security Damian,Nico and Theo go everywhere and do everything together. What Tessa thought was going to be a simple nanny job has turned into so much more. I don't want to say anymore and ruin it for anyone else with spoilers. You really need to read this entertaining, sweet and steamy, billionaire, RH romance to see what happens. I would recommend reading this book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Just okay
Format: Kindle
This is the second book from this duo I’ve read. And I just can’t get into it. Like Cassie Cole books. Sasha Moon is new to me. This book has a decent storyline. Intrigue. Exotic places. Dangerous underworld. Tessa is plucked from her waitressing job to nanny for Damien. The billionaire art mogul and his 2 friends. They are deep into a new project that they call the Legacy Collection. She’s whisked around the world as she Nanny’s for the billionaire. My problem is that I just do not like Tessa. She’s quickly inserting herself into business she knows nothing about. Creeping around places she shouldn’t be and the billionaire and his security is okay about it. A slight talking to and that’s all. I like a strong female character, but she was often a brat. She just wasn’t likable to me. She was tolerable once they arrived in Greece, but I was too far gone at that point. Good level of spice. The scenes were hot. The guys were likable. Overall, I couldn’t wait to finish it but I found myself often putting off picking it up

Great Story!!
Format: Kindle
This was a great story however, it did seem a little short. Maybe a little rushed, but that could also be because I wanted a little more development of the characters as a family :). Also, I love how this story doesn’t seem like there are two different authors! Whew :). I love that!!! The only real criticism I have is that there are too many characters with names that start with the letter “T” and it makes reading the story a little confusing.
