Rhipsalis micrantha f. kirbergii – Growth and Care Guide

Rhipsalis micrantha f. kirbergii is an epiphytic cactus native to the tropical forests of Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. Unlike desert cacti, it thrives in humid, shaded environments, making it a perfect choice for indoor cultivation. Its slender, three-angled stems mature into four- to six-angled forms, giving it a distinctive architectural appeal. Over time, the stems become long and trailing, making it a stunning addition to hanging planters. In optimal conditions, it produces small, white flowers followed by round, white to reddish-tinged fruits.

Key Features of Rhipsalis micrantha f. kirbergii

  • Trailing Growth Habit: Long, cascading stems make it ideal for hanging baskets or elevated displays.
  • Distinctive Foliage: Slender, initially three-angled stems mature into a unique, multi-angled shape.
  • Flowers and Fruits: Small, white flowers bloom along the stems, followed by round, white or reddish-tinged fruits.
  • Pet-Friendly: Non-toxic to pets and humans, making it a safe choice for any home.

Essential Information About Rhipsalis micrantha f. kirbergii

  • Natural Habitat: Grows epiphytically in humid forests of Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela.
  • Indoor Growth Potential: Stems can reach significant lengths, creating a cascading effect.
  • Growth Rate: Moderate, with steady elongation of stems over time.
  • Toxicity: Completely safe for pets and humans.

How to Care for Rhipsalis micrantha f. kirbergii

  • Placement: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sun.
  • Light: Thrives in bright, filtered light but can adapt to lower light conditions.
  • Watering: Water when the top 1-2 cm of soil is dry. Reduce watering in cooler months.
  • Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity but adapts to average indoor levels.
  • Temperature: Best kept between 18-24°C. Avoid exposure to cold drafts.
  • Soil: Use a well-draining mix with orchid bark, perlite, and potting soil.
  • Repotting and Pot Choice: Repot every 2-3 years when root-bound. Hanging planters complement its trailing growth.
  • Fertilizing: Feed with a diluted cactus fertilizer every 2-4 weeks during active growth.
  • Propagation: Easily propagated from stem cuttings. Let cut ends dry before planting.
  • Pruning: Trim any damaged or overly long stems to maintain shape.
  • Hydroponics: Can adapt to semi-hydroponic setups with controlled moisture.

Common Issues and Solutions

  • Pests: Mealybugs and scale insects may appear. Treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap.
  • Root Rot: Caused by overwatering or poor drainage. Allow soil to dry between waterings.
  • Stem Discoloration: Yellowing or reddish stems may indicate too much direct sunlight or improper watering.

By far the best 1/4 pull over zip I have ever bought - 5 stars
This is the most comfortable and best looking pullover 1/4 zip I have ever bought. It looks really good on me and it is super soft, but not too soft that it looks cheap. I did not get hot in it and I get hot easy in long sleeves. It breaths well and yet also kept me from a chilly breeze. The collar is one of the best I have ever found for a pull over like this as it does not poke me and it stays upright and looks very sharp. The only thing about it is that I had to put it in my steam dryer and then hang upside down to dry overnight as it had a few wrinkles in it when it came. So it is not 1,000% wrinkle free, but after wearing it half a day it did not wrinkle at all. As long as you keep it on a long wooden hanger I do not think it will wrinkle. If you dont have long wooden hangers thought, since it is a tad heavy, the shoulders I think would get bumps hanging a long time in the closet on a short hanger (like all long sleeve shirts with a little weight like this would). I got this one as it was I thought the most masculine color match. I would love to see this in other colors and keep everything else the same. I love the inner collar pattern design as it gives it a nice look. I am 5'11" and about 230 lbs and it fit me in a XL perfect. I have broad shoulder and bigger chest and a bit of a dad bod, so I wanted something that is not baggy nor snug on my mid area (so I don't look fat). This is the perfect length too, it is long enough it won't come up if I reach up and show my stomach, and long enough to be a tag long in the back, but short enough that it doesn't look too long. All in all, this size and fit was perfect for me. My style is I want to look good but I have to be comfortable and that is not the easiest to do, but this with some nice pants (of any kind) is a really sharp look and comfortable.

Great shirts at a reasonable price.
Great shirts for the price. The fit is true to size, and they have a quality look that rivals shirts 5 times the price. Definitely recommend.

Great fancy golf brand dupe
My husband is a golf brand snob! I'm talkin' he will only wear RhoBack, Travis Mathew, Johnnie O, etc. I got him this for Christmas (teacher on a budget) and it had become one of his favorites! He even said it's better quality than TM! True to size and looks SO GOOD in him
