What makes the Jane Magnolia Tree Special

Mostly noted for its compact shrub habit, slightly fragrant pinkish-purple tulip-shaped flowers. The Jane Magnolia is actually a part of a famous hybrid series known as the “Little Girl” series. This series was developed in the 1950s as a cross breed between Magnolia liliiflora and Magnolia stellata. It is amongst the most common deciduous trees and shrubs from this collection. Jane Magnolia will awe you with its striking color. Even when it’s not in season, the Jane Magnolia bush maintains an attractive shape all year round!

  • Abundant, long-lasting purple flower buds with delicious fragrance
  • Dark green foliage gives landscape texture in the summer months
  • A beautiful fall color tree with leaves that turn copper-yellow in autumn

Jane Magnolia Tree Care Guide

The Jane Magnolia shrub does best in widely adaptable, well drained soils and in full sun to partial shade. This Magnolia lilliflora prefers growing across the United States in USDA growing zones 4-8. The moderately slow growth rate of this flowering tree makes it a great front yard tree. Prefers slightly acidic soil.

  • Soil: Magnolias grow well in organically rich, well-drained soil and neutral to acidic soil. Ideally soil should be evenly moist but not soggy. They can grow in moderate shade, but growth and flower production are best in full sun or partial shade. In Northern climates, planting in a location with some wind protection may be best for the Jane’s large leaves and soft wood.
  • How to Plant: We ship our plants rooted in soil in containers. When the tree arrives, loosen the soil around the root ball to encourage new root growth. Dig a hole and place the plant down to the top of the root. Plant your Jane Magnolia and cover with soil and mulch appropriately to help retain moisture.
  • Watering: When you first plant your magnolia Jane, water every 2-3 days in order to help roots establish. Continue this frequent watering for the first 1-2 months, especially if you’re going into the summer. Once roots have well established, you can reduce watering to once a week except after rain. Generally, we see the best results from our Jane Magnolias when they get about 1 inch of water a week.
  • Pruning Your Jane Magnolia: It's best to prune the Jane Magnolia in late winter or early spring. The Jane Magnolia can be maintained as a shrub bush or small tree. They require little pruning other than to promote a balanced, strong frame when young and to remove dead or damaged branches. Pruning should be carried out in late summer or late winter to avoid bleeding of sap.

Pro Gardener Tip: To enhance the variation of flower colors, the addition of a soil acidifier such as sulfur or peat moss can do wonders!

So Far So Good
I adopted a young adult dog less than 2 weeks ago. She had spent over 12 hours a day in a crate and has excessive energy and anxiety built up. She is a strong chewer. So far, out of 6 toys, this is the only one still in one piece. It appears sturdy and extra bouncy. So much better than regular tennis balls.

My dogs favorite!
My dogs love these! They will play all day if you'd let them, these balls are their favorites. I use the chuck-it handle and they get tons of exercise in the big yard!

The Dog LOVES IT!
I bought this for my ex-wife's Pitbull. He is an aggressive chewer and usually destroys any toy I buy him. But not this one! The ball is small enough and pliable that it gives when he chomps on it. He loves this ball and seems to be his favorite toy. Thank you for making a product that he likes and can't destroy!

My Golden Retriever’s favorite
We’ve owned lots of toys and balls. This specific version (in blue) has been her absolute favorite. She’s about 72lbs and chews on this thing regularly with no visible damage. We actually own about 6 of them because they have a tendency to go missing underneath furniture and in the yard. We have two of the orange colored ones but she doesn’t like those nearly as much which I assume is because the blue is easier to see in the grass. Other than that…They bounce really well and also whistle a little when you throw them hard enough. I hope they never stop making these.
