DIY Calathea & Maranta Soil Kit | Fast EU shipping | Coco fibre base | Ideal for prayer plants & humidity lovers

Summary: Specially designed to reduce crispy edges and boost lush foliage, this moisture-retentive yet breathable mix mimics tropical forest floors—perfect for Calathea and Maranta in European homes.

🧪 Composition & Ingredients

  • Coco Fibre – ~40% (airy, fibrous base that retains moisture while improving structure)
  • Perlite Grains – ~25% (adds airflow and prevents compaction)
  • Vermiculite – ~25% (boosts water retention and humidity support)
  • Activated Charcoal – small handful (keeps substrate fresh and balanced)
  • Lava Rock (Pumice) – small handful (improves structure and drainage)

💨 Drainage & Aeration

Balanced airflow prevents compact soil while still holding enough structure for delicate roots. Coco fibre creates a looser, more breathable texture than traditional cocopeat, while perlite and lava rock ensure roots can breathe without drying out too quickly.

💧 Moisture Retention

High moisture retention from coco fibre and vermiculite helps prevent dry, crispy leaf edges—one of the most common issues in German apartments with dry indoor air.

🔄 Use Cases & Compatibility

Perfect for Calathea, Maranta, Ctenanthe, and Stromanthe. Ideal for indoor plants in European homes where humidity fluctuates throughout the year.

📦 Format & Quantity Options

Pre-measured to create approx. 3–5L of substrate. Suitable for 2–3 medium plants or several smaller prayer plants.

♻️ Sustainability & Safety

Peat-free and environmentally friendly. Coco fibre is a renewable resource derived from coconut husks. All ingredients are safe to handle and suitable for homes with pets.

📅 Storage & Shelf Life

Store in a sealed container in a dry place. Best used within 12 months. Lightly rehydrate coco fibre before use if it becomes fully dry.

🛠 How to Use

Mixing Instructions: Use the following ratios by volume (e.g., scoops or cups):

  • 1.5 parts Coco Fibre
  • 1 part Perlite
  • 1 part Vermiculite
  • Small handful Activated Charcoal
  • Small handful Lava Rock

Mix thoroughly and use in pots with drainage holes. Keep soil lightly moist at all times and avoid letting it fully dry out.

STELLAR
Format: Hardcover
Highest quality print. I ordered this book during the early part of the 2020 pandemic. When it arrived I was so happy. The images were comforting during a time of great stress in our world. It reminded me that Final Fantasy has been a tremendous part of my life. I'm grateful for the effort put into this book, which was in part a preview of the Pixel Remasters that came later. Brilliant.

Amazing book, but unnecessary
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
I would give this book 5 stars, but at the end of the day I don't think I can. I love flipping through it and looking at the color palettes and seeing the ways the artists communicated ideas through their limited palettes and spaces. There are also little 3D paper arts you can do of some of the sprites, like the fountain pictured above. It has helped me in my pixel art journey and it could 100% help you. The only reason I would say not to buy it is because all of the sprites are accessible online. If you want to understand the art on a deeper level and develop an appreciation for the passion that pixel art contains, buy it. If you want to look at them quickly as references and are an experienced pixel artist, it is not as useful, you could learn the rules just by looking at the sprites online, but you would miss the explanations and writings that help explain the art.

Great for my Quilting!
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
I bought this book at launch and it has pretty much become my “bible” for Final Fantasy pixel art. I sew and love making nerdy quilts so when I saw this, it was a total insta-buy. It showcases so much original art as well as newly designed sprites (for both older and newer games). I honestly didn’t know about the newer games being designed as sprites so when I saw this, I immediately got to creating. Beyond this being a great pattern book for pixel quilting, I loved seeing a piece of FF history we don’t get to know about. Also loved the interview showcased. A good book for any Final Fantasy lover collection!

A great book for a fan of the early final fantasy series.
Format: Hardcover
I love this book! I grew up with the NES and this brought back a lot of memories of how as a kid I would get lost in the creativity of what developers of these games made with only some blocks. I love pixel art and this book is great if you enjoy making your own and admiring the work of someone else's and seeing their imagination from some truly great games. This book is small in size but is perfect size to show blown up images of final fantasy pixel characters and creatures, also of places from the games. Also having final fantasy characters from beyond the Nintendo/SNES was a really cool surprise to see if they had been made in that era.
