Ficus Ginseng is one of the most striking and sculptural houseplants available. Its defining feature is its thick, gnarled, bulbous root system that rises dramatically above the soil line before branching upward into small, glossy oval leaves. It is the plant most commonly associated with bonsai aesthetics, and it delivers that ancient, meditative quality without the demanding care that true bonsai requires. Each one is unique in its shape, making every plant a genuinely one-of-a-kind piece.
Good for beginners? Yes, with attention to consistency. Ficus Ginseng prefers stable conditions and does not like being moved frequently. Once settled in a good spot it is very low maintenance.
Safe for cats and dogs? Ficus Ginseng is toxic to pets if ingested and the sap can irritate skin. Keep out of reach of cats and dogs.
Light needs: Bright indirect light is ideal. It tolerates medium light but growth slows. Avoid direct harsh sun and very low light. Consistency is more important than intensity.
Care at a glance: Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Do not let it sit in water. Feed monthly in spring and summer. Prune lightly to maintain shape. Avoid moving it frequently as Ficus dislikes disruption.
