Cuban Oregano LIVE PLANT
Plectranthus Amboinicus

This herb goes by many names, such as: Mother of All Herbs, Spanish thyme, Mexican mint, Puerto Rican oregano, Dominican Oregano, and Indian borage.

Listing is for one rooted plant. Plants are grown in 72 cell trays so that they will be rooted but small enough for efficient shipping.
***Please note these plants grow quick so sometimes I have to cut the top off (see last photo in the listing) to fit it in the shipping box. But no worries, they will grow back quickly and frequent "topping" promotes more side branching and leaf production. ***

Cuban Oregano is neither an oregano or Cuban. Its actually part of the mint family and is native to parts of Asia, Africa, and India. This semi-tropical herb thrives in hot climates when many other herbs cannot. The broad leaves have a soft fuzzy sensation with a strong mint/oregano/lemon type of flavor. Its high medicinal and is used to make tea, dried as a seasoning, or added to marinades for various meats. Like other members of the mint family, this is a vigorous plant that spreads when its stems touch the soil and get rooted. However, the stems are much thicker making it easier to gram and pull them out if needed. In extreme heat, like my Florida garden, it grows much better in partial shade to shield it from the afternoon sun. Therefore, I grow it under my fruit trees.

This is a tropical plant that does not like the cold. Protect smaller/baby plants when temperatures drop below 40F. Once mature and established they can endure a little more cold, but expect some leaf damage. If your in zones 9 and up, it will survive the winter. Zones 8 and below will need to bring in doors for the winter. Heavily prune down the plant, put in a pot, and bring in doors. Or you could take a bunch of cuttings and root them in water during the winter.

When can I start harvesting leaves? Leaves can be harvested right away. But I recommend allowing this starter plant to grow stems that are at least over 1FT long before harvesting leaves.

Growing Conditions
USDA Hardiness Zones: 9-11
Does not like temperatures below 40F.
Perennial evergreen - will lose leaves if exposed to too much cold
Sun: Full sun or partial shade
Soil: Everything grows best in soil that is heavy in composted organic matter BUT this plant grows just fine in a variety of soils without amendments, like my native Florida sandy soil.
Water: Monitor young plants and keep consistent water. Once established, the can survive periods of drought.
Fertilizer: Not really necessary for mature plants, but for young/smaller plants I recommend mixing in blood meal into the planting hole which is high in nitrogen and promotes lush leafy growth.

Bruce Wayne: Not Super | Comic Review
Format: Paperback
I recently had the opportunity to check out Bruce Wayne: Not Super from DC Comics. The story is from Stuart Gibbs and the artwork is from Berat Pekmezci, and it is obviously about Batman. The middle-grade graphic novel follows a teenage Cape Crusader going to school with every other DC character. Heroes and villains all going to school together is a funny concept that I think is pulled off well here. What’s the joke about Batman? He’s just a rich kid with no powers, so what happens when he goes to a prep school with Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Arrow, etc.? Bruce has to come to grip with having no powers and how that affects his daily interactions with his classmates. Bruce’s alienation at being powerless directly conflicts with his goal of being a vigilante hero for Gotham City. His camaraderie with Dick Grayson (Robin) helps him work through his feelings on wanting to be Ferretman Batman. Aging adult characters down to young teens can come with their own difficulties, but I think Pekmezci nailed it. The artwork is very good throughout this book. It may not be everybody’s cup of tea, but I really dig these “Elseworlds” stories that place the heroes in completely weird situations. And, what’s weirder than a middle/high school full of super-powered kids! Clearly, I wasn’t the intended audience for this book, but I think those kids will have a great time reading this.

Fast read but well loved
Format: Paperback
I gave book 1 and 2 to my 9 year old and she read them both in 2 days and informed me when book 3 will be released. She said she liked the story, the characters had interesting names, and the graphics were exceptional.
