Bring lush tropical vibes with this XL indoor palm

Dypsis lutescens (Areca Palm) XL 120cm | Fast EU shipping | Grown with love in the EU | Pet-safe

Summary: The Areca Palm XL transforms your home into a bright, tropical sanctuary with its tall, feathery fronds—perfect for purifying air and adding elegant height to any room.

✨ Why You'll Love the Dypsis lutescens XL

  • Graceful arching fronds create a soft, airy tropical feel
  • Pet-safe – worry-free for homes with cats and dogs
  • Excellent natural air purifier for healthier indoor spaces
  • Ideal statement plant for living rooms, offices, or entryways
  • Average height: 120 cm | Growth: Upright clumping with multiple stems

🌞 Light & Placement

Thrives in bright, indirect light but tolerates some light shade. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the leaves. Ideal near east or west-facing windows with filtered light.

💧 Water & Humidity

Water when the top 3–5 cm of soil are dry. Loves moderate to high humidity; mist occasionally, especially during winter heating, to keep fronds lush and tips green.

🪴 Soil & Potting

Plant in a well-draining indoor palm mix rich in organic matter. Repot every 2–3 years in spring to refresh soil and accommodate its expanding root system.

🐾 Toxicity & Safety

Non-toxic to pets and humans—safe for homes with cats, dogs, and children.

🌱 Growth & Propagation

Moderate grower indoors. Propagation is done via seed or division, but division is uncommon for home growers due to dense clumping roots.

📆 Seasonal & Special Care

Wipe fronds gently to remove dust and keep them photosynthesising efficiently. Fertilise monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength.

🐛 Common Issues

Brown leaf tips often indicate low humidity or fluoride sensitivity; use filtered water if needed. Watch for spider mites or mealybugs and treat promptly with neem oil.

🧬 Botanical Background

Dypsis lutescens, also known as Areca Palm or Butterfly Palm, is native to Madagascar and belongs to the Arecaceae family. Its elegant fronds and pet-safe nature make it a timeless favourite for European indoor jungles.

A New Favorite
Format: Hardcover
This was one of my favorite new MG horror books of the year. The story was beautifully told with a strong emotional arc and eerie touches, as well as excellent ND representation. Can't recommend it enough!

Excellent (slightly) spooky read
Format: Hardcover
Another great read by Meg Eden Kuyatt. I am not much of a scary books fan, but this one was so good. I especially loved that the main character has autism and we learn so much through how different members of her family treat her.

Fun educational book
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
This book is a big hit! My 5 year old son and I read it so many times since we ordered this in April. It has cute illustration and 60 flaps and pop-ups which make the book even more exciting. And because of this, I don’t recommend this book to young kids under 3 though. Some flaps might be tricky for younger kids. Even I as a parent learned so much about construction.

Great book, but the other book of the same author is much better
Format: Hardcover
This is a very high quality book, chock a block full of information about construction sites, with lots of imaginative flaps, things that swivel, move, and fold. HOWEVER...it is not as good as "The Ultimate Book of Vehicles" by the same author. The "Vehicles" book is more appropriate for kids 3 years and up: It is still full of awesome flaps, swivels, and things that move, but it is simpler, with pictures of the vehicle, the name of the vehicle, and maybe a few names of the parts of the vehicle. You open up a flap to see inside, make it move, etc. My son found it very interesting. The "Construction" is really aimed for older kids, I'm guessing 5 and up, maybe even older. There are just so many words on the page, and so much information. The flaps are not as interesting as the previous book, and I found many of the moving parts to be "sticky", and my 3 year old ripped quite a few out within a week of reading the book. We have not ripped anything from the "Vehicle" book. So I would say if you have an older kid who wants to gain a lot of knowledge about construction sites, this book is for you. But if you have a younger child (3 and up, any younger and they'd destroy the book), get the "Vehicle" book.
