The Monsters Of Rock festival was founded in 1980. The idea was simple yet revolutionary — bring the best hard rock, specifically hard rock, bands together in one place and let as many people come as possible. The inaugural fest was held in England and featured Rainbow, Judas Priest, Scorpions, and more. It grew in size and became an internationally touring festival. The fest even played Soviet Russia in 1991 in what was one of the largest concerts of all time with over 1.5 million people attending. The 1988 edition featured Van Halen, with their Sammy Hagar lineup, as well as Scorpions, Dokken, Metallica, and Kingdom Come. This original Van Halen shirt, unworn in excellent condition, is from their 1988 Monsters Of Rock tour.
