Description

The Congo Rojo Philodendron is a stunning houseplant with great color. New leaves emerge ruby red. As they age the leaves turn a crimson green. The vibrant stems are red too. The shiny leaves are heart-shaped. This plant can grow to around 3 feet tall and wide at maturity. The red congo philodendron has an upright, shrubby habit, in contrast to most other philodendrons which have a vining nature.

The red congo philodendron will add awesome color and texture to your living space while cleaning the air! This phenomenal houseplant is extremely low maintenance. While it prefers bright indirect light, it can adapt to lower levels of light.

How to Care

This philodendron prefers bright, indirect light. It can, however, adapt to lower light conditions. Direct sunlight can burn the leaves so use caution when putting this plant outside or in front of a sunny window. If the light is uneven rotate your congo rojo philodendron every few weeks to ensure even growth.

Good quality organic planting mix is perfect for this plant. They enjoy well-draining soil.

The water requirements for this plant are low to moderate. Water it when the soil dries. Test the soil moisture by putting your finger down about 2 inches into the soil. If it is dry go ahead and water. If it is wet, hold off for a few more days. Watering thoroughly about once per week usually works well for the congo rojo philodendron.

Fertilize 2 to 3 times per year with a balanced slow release fertilizer.

This plant is fast growing and will need to be repotted every so often. When you notice the roots taking over the soil and/or the soil not holding water well it is time to repot. Choose a container with good drainage that is slightly larger than the existing pot.

Trim back any dead or dying leaves. This is a natural process, but feel free to prune anytime to keep your plant looking nice.

Memories of the Camino
Format: Paperback
First off, I have to say that my husband and I know Angela, the author. We met her because she is a neighbor of my sister, living in Hawaii. We discovered that she planned to walk the Camino de Santiago de Compostela the same year we were (2016) ! On a visit to Hawaii, we met with Angela and did a little local hike together. She was so enthusiastic and had prepared well. We, too, had been reading up and watching videos, getting suggestions as to what to bring, how to deal with physical issues and weather, what to pack and what not to pack, etc. Still, for anyone doing the Camino - whether the WHOLE 500 miles or doing the required 100 km to get the certificate at the final destination: Santiago de Compostela, Spain - it is a very personal endeavor. Reading Angela Leslee's book gives you the personal story of her "camino," and it is captivating. The changes that take place in her life - the discoveries she makes, the people she meets, the failures she feels, the fears, the habits that get broken (such as food choices!) - all make for an adventure that is life-changing and an interesting read. For anyone considering this pilgrimage, because that's what it is, this book will inspire you. You don't need to be part of a "group." You don't need a lot of plans. You do need to be prepared to be changed. The memory for myself and my husband is that it is the best shared experience we have had together in our 50 years of marriage! Angela's book brought back so many wonderful memories for us. I highly recommend this book.

Feeling Inspired!
Format: Paperback
Reading "The Way of Love" has inspired and encouraged me as I plan for my first (solo) Camino. I thank Angela Leslee for being unafraid to bare all the emotions in her book: the joys, victories, setbacks, disappointments, and pain. It's evident that "The Way of Love" was a labor of love as page after page recounts the 500 miles she walked! I told the author in an email that, in September, when I walk my Camino, I'll be sure to be up and out on the trail "...before sunrise when the yellow street lights cast their magical glow." Can't wait to experience that! "The Way of Love" -- easy to read and enjoy.

the good, the bad, the funny, the reality
Format: Kindle
A great memoir of an “older” woman walking the Camino de Santiago alone. Alone but with many friendships along the way.

An Honest Tale
Format: Kindle
When someone you know writes a heart-felt story of a journey of self-discovery, it's startling to realize how little you knew of their self. Walking the Camino across Spain in 40 days of pain and revelations, Angela takes us on an epic journey into her soul. She marvels, delights, laughs, and cries at the breath-taking scenery, the scents of forests and fields of flowers and grasses, the fellow pilgrims she meets and re-encounters across the 40 days. Day by day we travel with her. Her account of everyday life on the journey is vivid. I recommend this book to everyone who has been, or wants to go, on a voyage of self-examination, who wants to question why they are living in the way they are. Maybe life could be different, if one took time to try a different way.
