Growing up, whenever my dad didn’t feel well he would pull unusual looking bottles from our cavernous 1980’s coffee table and apply it to an ache. Then, he would feel better. Strangely, my sinuses would also open and my mind became extra alert from the unusual medicinal, yet refreshing aroma that wafted from the bottle.

If you grew up in an Asian household you know what I’m talking about. Our families’ medicine cabinets were often filled with bottles of bright green or red magical-looking potions, tiger balm, and herbaceous lozenges that you could only find in Chinatown.

One of these common potions that I still love and use after massage, Gua Sha or Cupping to this day is White Flower Oil. It’s sort of like a liquid version of tiger balm, a kind of Asian Vick’s Vapor Rub or Bengay, if you will. As flu season arrives, I wanted to introduce you to this multi-tasking little helper that you can keep on hand for use when you start to come down with something.
