Dracaena (Sansevieria) trifasciata 'Metallica'

Dracaena trifasciata 'Metallica' is a silver-grey snake plant with long, tapered leaves and a softly striped surface. The foliage combines muted green and grey tones, giving each blade a brushed metallic look. The smooth-looking, reflective leaf surface gives the plant its muted metallic look in a simple pot.

New leaves rise from the base and slowly build the plant into a fuller clump. The long blades stay tidy in shape, while the striped grey-green surface catches light well in bright indoor positions. Beside greener plants, 'Metallica' adds cool-toned snake plant texture with a quieter leaf colour.

Silver striping and tapered leaf blades

  • Leaf colour: Grey, silver and muted green tones create the metallic-looking surface.
  • Leaf shape: Long, tapering blades give the plant height and a slim overall outline.
  • Growth base: New shoots emerge from below the substrate and slowly increase the clump.
  • Indoor placement: The grey-toned foliage pairs with plain pots, low plant stands and bright shelves.
  • Flowering: Mature snake plants may occasionally produce pale, tubular blooms in settled indoor conditions.

Leaf surface, slow growth and pot fit

'Metallica' has firm, moisture-storing leaves and a base that needs air after watering. The grey metallic surface gives it a cool appearance, and the plant develops best with warmth, bright filtered light, a draining substrate and a clear dry interval between waterings.

The grey leaf surface reflects light clearly, so dust and splash marks can show quickly. Wiping the leaves gently keeps the metallic tone visible and helps you spot early damage. New shoots often appear close to the existing fan and take time to reach the same height as older leaves.

A slightly snug pot keeps excess substrate from staying damp around the lower plant. Repot when the clump has filled the pot or the mix has lost structure, using a container only modestly larger than the old one.

Care for grey-green snake plant foliage

  • Light: Bright indirect light keeps the leaves firm and the grey-green colour clear. In dimmer rooms, the plant grows slowly and the substrate dries at a gentler pace.
  • Watering: Let the mix dry deeply, then water thoroughly and drain fully. The plant should return to a dry root zone before the next watering.
  • Substrate: Use a free-draining mix with pumice, lava rock, coarse sand or fine bark. The lower plant needs air after watering.
  • Pot choice: A pot with drainage holes and enough weight for the leaves gives the plant a stable base.
  • Temperature: Keep it in steady indoor warmth, ideally around 18–27 °C. Warmth keeps the substrate drying evenly after watering.
  • Humidity: Average household humidity is enough. The plant grows well in normal room air.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth with a diluted balanced or cactus fertiliser. Slow snake plant growth needs restrained feeding.
  • Repotting: Repot when new shoots crowd the pot or the substrate has broken down. A modest size increase keeps drying time manageable.
  • Propagation: Divide rooted sections when the clump is large enough. This keeps the new plant matched to the parent growth.

Surface marks and root-zone stress

  • Soft lower leaves: Check the depth of the potting mix, drainage and cover pot. Softness near the base usually means the lower plant remained damp too long.
  • Wrinkling: Inspect both the substrate and the roots. A thirsty-looking leaf can come from drought or from roots that have lost function.
  • Brown tips: Look for old handling marks, mineral buildup, dry spells followed by heavy watering, or cold air exposure.
  • Dull foliage: Wipe leaves with a soft damp cloth. Dust can quickly mute the metallic leaf surface.
  • Slow new growth: Check light, warmth and root-zone dryness before adjusting the feeding routine.

Safety with pets and children

Place Dracaena trifasciata 'Metallica' out of reach of pets and small children who may chew the leaves. Snake plants contain saponins, which can cause nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea in cats and dogs if ingested. A steady pot position also protects the long leaves from cracking or tipping.

Dracaena name and metallic leaf colour

The genus name Dracaena comes from the Greek drakaina, meaning “female dragon”, a name historically associated with red resin in some dragon tree relatives. The leaves have a grey metallic-looking surface with fine striping and a muted silver-green tone.

Dracaena trifasciata 'Metallica' has cool grey-green striping, tapered blades and a slow upright clump.

Large-format printer, fairly reliable and quick but so-so on ink usage
Style: WF-7820, Set: SINGLE TRAY (250 sheets/FAX/ADF/PRINT/COPY/SCAN
Large-format scanner/printer. Accepts paper from the front (main) cassette OR through a back paper tray if you need to print something on different paper. Individual cartridges for ink. Not particularly economical on ink (and the ink of course is expensive) but the cartridges are individual (one each red, yellow, blue and black) and after a couple years of use, I've NEVER had to clean the print heads - printing is always clean and clear. Has had some issues connecting to wifi so have found the cable connection to the computer is best/more reliable. It's hard to find an absolutely perfect printer but this one comes close. I use it mostly for large scanning/printing as it goes up to 11 x 17 inches. One drawback to note is that after only a short time, the document feeder pulls the documents through crookedly, so scans/prints from the document feeder do NOT come out straight (for both single and double-sided scans.) This model is a few years old so there may be more recent Epson models on the market as of 2026.

All printer suck this one sucks less. :). Love it.
Style: WF-7820, Set: SINGLE TRAY (250 sheets/FAX/ADF/PRINT/COPY/SCAN
If you ever saw office space the movie there is a scene where he get mad at his printer and we all relate because printers have a lot of moving parts that can go bad. I have not got or set up a printer for many years. So it was a tad hard but honestly not really. It takes time because it does so much. And I wanted to rush but they truly did everything they could to baby sit us. Google the printer type with the word download. That is what I did and you come to a page you find and down load set up software. I set it up with usb. But also wireless. A tad tricky but only because I was not following directions. It takes some time to find all the packing tape and that’s fine. It’s bigger than most printers. So when I was looking for printers they were 400 or 1-2 thousand. And then this one less than two hundred. In business two hundred is like disposable. At home it’s a nice dinner. So I am impressed for the money what ya get. Personally. The screen is huge. And clear. And you can read it from many angles. It’s animated. Touch. It’s flexible you can tilt it. Better than the old brother with with a thumbnail. I also set it up on my phone. It was not hat hard and printed a photo and it printed color edge to edge and it’s on standard paper. Look nice. And like a photo in a magazine. Can’t wait to print something 13 by 19. We own a venue restaurant and do shows can’t wait to make show posters. I’m going to buy one for home but want to see what printing cost is.

Epson quality has sunk into the nameless abyss
Style: WF-7820, Set: SINGLE TRAY (250 sheets/FAX/ADF/PRINT/COPY/SCAN
Really shocked that this is how bad Epson products have gotten. This MFC isn't even comparable to models that came out 20 years ago. First off the scanner is extremely poor quality. My Brother MFC from 2009 can pick up light blues and reds and brightness of the paper better then this Epson can. Which is just sad. Very poor color gambit for the scanner, it would be better to take photos with your phone and send them to the printer then use the scanner. I scan in watercolors and ink paintings/sketches and had to pull out my decade old scanner rather then use this one. Then there is the quality of the prints, which is mediocre at best. Colors don't reproduce well and you can't adjust the profile enough to get it to print correctly. Then there is the insane amount of ink this thing uses. The amount of pages you can print per cartridge is a complete lie, think half if not a 3rd of the page count unless you are only printing on a 5.5x4 sheets of paper. Cartridges are overpriced and they can not be refilled, Epson installed a one use only chip in each of their cartridges and even if it had only used half the ink in the cartridge it won't print with it anymore. They also force updates that will deactivate any cartridge you haven't replaced in a while even if it is a genuine Epson cartridge. This printer's only purpose is to be a money pit for ink cartridges you don't actually need. Never buy Epson, they have become a dishonest unethical company with a shotty product line. *update, Epson gets worst. Firmware got updated by accident. Apparently now no cartridges work with printer, even bought from Epson. Everyone is unrecognizable by the printer. Epson has gone overboard on making their printers n compatible with remanufactured cartridges that they decided to make even their own cartridges no longer work. Turning the printer into a 50lb paper weight. NEVER BUY AN EPSON PRODUCT!!!!

So fun with good results!
Works great so far! Never used a sublimation printer or heat press before in my life and the shirt below is my attempt. The ghosting was totally user error and not due to the print. The set-up process was a bit long because it involved a 14 minute ink cycle, but the instructions walk you through every step very clearly so there were no issues. Follow them and you will be up and running in about 25 minutes. It did not come with paper as represented so be sure you have some on hand. The print quality is great from my perspective and from my shopping around, it's a great value for the money. There is little to no noise and it prints much faster than I was expecting.
