Turtle Vine (Callisia repens) — also known as Creeping Inch Plant, Bolivian Jew, or Callisia Turtle Vine — is a trailing succulent loved for its dense, cascading growth and tiny, glossy leaves that resemble turtle shells. It’s an easy-to-grow houseplant and a popular choice for hanging baskets or as ground cover in succulent gardens.

🌿 Description

  • Botanical name: Callisia repens
  • Family: Commelinaceae (Spiderwort family)
  • Type: Trailing succulent perennial
  • Growth habit: Compact and low-growing with stems that spread and trail beautifully
  • Leaves: Small, oval, fleshy, and slightly glossy — green on top and purple underneath
  • Flowers: Tiny, white, and appear occasionally in clusters

🌞 Light Requirements

  • Prefers bright, indirect sunlight.
  • Can tolerate some direct morning sun, but harsh afternoon sun can scorch the leaves.
  • In low light, growth becomes leggy, and the purple tint fades.

💧 Watering

  • Keep the soil slightly moist, but never soggy.
  • Water when the top 1 inch of soil feels dry.
  • Overwatering can cause root rot — a common issue with Turtle Vine.
  • Reduce watering during the winter months.

🌱 Soil

  • Use a well-draining succulent or cactus mix.
  • You can improve drainage by mixing in perlite or coarse sand.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

  • Ideal temperature: 18–30°C (65–85°F)
  • Not frost-tolerant — bring indoors during winter.
  • Prefers moderate humidity but can adapt to drier indoor air.

🌸 Propagation

  • Very easy to propagate through stem cuttings.
  • Simply cut a healthy stem (3–4 inches), remove lower leaves, and place in moist soil or water.
  • Roots usually develop within 1–2 weeks.

✂️ Maintenance Tips

  • Trim regularly to keep the plant bushy and prevent legginess.
  • Pinch back long stems to encourage branching.
  • Repot every 1–2 years to refresh the soil and manage root growth.

⚠️ Common Problems

  • Yellowing leaves: Overwatering or poor drainage.
  • Leggy growth: Too little light.
  • Leaf drop: Sudden temperature changes or low humidity.

🪴 Uses

  • Great for hanging baskets, terrariums, or tabletop pots.
  • Works well as ground cover in warm climates.
  • Adds lush greenery and a pop of purple color to interiors.

Airedale tough!
Color: Rubber Chew Toy, Size: Large
We have two young Airedale Terriers and I thought this would be a good inside toy for them to tug. And I was right! Very happily so. I have to admit I was surprised when I first saw it; it seemed so small. But the thing stretches and springs back to shape. We’ve had it about 2 weeks now and it is constantly played with. Absolutely the best toy! Very interactive either alone (it rolls) or with us or they play together. I am surprised how tough it is with all the constant rough play. Highly recommend!!!

Small, but twisty and fun looking. Seems relatively sturdy, though doesn't look indestructible at all.
Color: Rubber Chew Toy, Size: Large
SLIGHTLY disappointed because I thought this was bigger than it is. If you squish it all in close, it's maybe one and a half times the size of a tennis ball. (Of course, the size is probably listed; I think I just assumed, so my fault.) That being said, it's entertainingly twisty and squishy, though the rubber seems relatively sturdy. I'm not yet positive if it will hold up to the 8 month retriever/lab mix it's intended for; he tends to rip instantly through anything much less sturdy than kong natural rubber. But it seems like something that will amuse him, so we're going to give it a shot at Christmas.

Great product!
Color: Rubber Chew Toy, Size: Large
My dog is an aggressive chewer. I have bought this 3 times for her she loves to play tug and fetch with it. They last longer than most of the other toys I get her and it’s one of her favorites.

It’s okay I guess
Color: Rubber Chew Toy, Size: Large
Good price and decent toy, seems well made. My puppy is entirely uninterested and doesn’t play with it at all.

Very dangerous for chewers!!!
Color: Rubber Chew Toy, Size: Large
My dog was chewing/swallowing the hard rubber within seconds of having this "toy"!!! Not safe, sturdy, no play attraction; only desire was to consume!!!
