Fast growing and requiring little care other than removing any straggly lower leaves, the Cabbage Palm is an essential addition to any jungle, exotic or mediterranean themed garden. Hardy in mild areas, it will happily tolerate down to at least -5C, but we would recommend a fleece jacket in winter at lower temperatures, in exposed positions and when young to minimise leaf damage.

GROWING GUIDE

Pre-Sowing Treatment: Soak the seeds in hand hot water for 1 hour.

Sowing Instructions:  Sow at any time of the year. Sow very thinly in trays or pots of a moist seed compost, eg John Innes mixed with a little vermiculite. Cover with a light sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a propagator or seal inside a polythene bag and maintain an optimum temperature of 18-21C. Germination should take place in 4 – 10 weeks. Note: Germination can be very erratic, so sow thinly and prick out the seedlings as they become large enough to handle disturbing the rest of the compost as little as possible.

Growing Instructions:  Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7 - 9cm pots. Over-winter at a temperature of no less than 5C for the first couple of winters. When well established, plants can be hardened off in late spring (place plants outdoors during the day and bring back in at night for 10 days), planted in pots or in the garden in a sunny position in well-drained soil.

Plants will need protection in winter for the first few years and when temperatures drop below -4C. An added benefit of wrapping plants is the leaves are not damaged by the frosts. Move potted plants to a frost free place and water sparingly and wrap plants in the garden with a fleece jacket.

Get the Tallow Soap Bar instead!
Too perfumy. Not very moisturizing. I've had a lot better but this same company makes an amazing tallow bar soap and that is worth it. Get the Tallow Soap Bar, you'll be glad you did.

Very good tallow cream, nice scent.
I've really been into testing different tallow creams and balms recently. In my experience, the difference between tallow cream and tallow balm is that the cream is much thinner and in most cases, less greasy. This tallow cream here is just that. It is thinner and less greasy than the balm. The sent on this one is interesting. It definitely smells like frankincense to me even though I don't see that listed with the ingredients. The tallow cream spreads out easily and absorbs into my skin very quickly, giving my skin a moisturized feel. It is not greasy in any way.

Better For Targeting Smaller Areas
Because this is a hard balm beef tallow, I find that it's best to use for targeting smaller areas. Due to being a hard balm, it's just kind of difficult to remove from the jar. Use the back of your fingernail to scrape against the balm and that will help you to lift out a small clump that you can then massage along the skin. Or use a cosmetic scoop or spatula to do so. Does not come with one. Once you get this into your skin, it does do a lot to treat and condition the skin. Moisturizes and relieves dryness on a deep level. Especially good for those who suffer from various dry skin conditions. It does have a very light scent that I like, but because of that, I don't like using this on my face. Besides, I tend to not like balms on my face anyway. You may like it there though because it is quite helpful. I love using this on my dry hands, especially after washing them. Also quite good to use along the fingernails to strengthen them. Will not leave the hands feeling messy with a lot of damp residuals. Made in the U.S.A.
