🌿 Very large shiny dark green shield-shaped leaves • 🎨 Deep purple underside with bronze highlights • ☀️ Bright indirect light • 💧 Moderate watering • 📏 H90 cm | Pot Ø21 cm

Alocasia Regal Shield, also called Elephant Ear, is a majestic hybrid native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia — its very large shiny dark green shield-shaped leaves with bronze-purple highlights and deep purple undersides create an impressive architectural presence in any space. Its pronounced veins enhance the sculptural effect of each leaf. Discover our collection of large indoor plants.

Its vigorous growth makes it a fast-evolving plant — each new leaf is larger than the previous one. Our XXL plants guide explains how to effectively integrate it into your space.

Exposure & Location

The Alocasia Regal Shield prefers bright indirect light — good brightness maintains the dark green shine of the foliage and intensifies the bronze-purple highlights. Allow enough space for its large leaves to spread freely.

  • Exposure: bright indirect light to partial shade — avoid direct sunlight.
  • Ideal for: spacious living room, office, entryway, large spaces.
  • Temperature: 18 to 27 °C, without sudden changes or drafts.
  • Substrate: light, airy, and well-drained — universal potting soil with perlite.

Watering & Care

  • Watering: moderate — let the top 2 to 3 cm of substrate dry out between waterings. Alocasia prefers slightly moist but never soggy substrate. Our light and humidity guide helps you find the right balance.
  • Frequency: about once a week in spring-summer, every two weeks in winter.
  • Humidity: prefers 60 to 70% humidity — mist occasionally or place on a tray of moist clay pebbles.
  • Fertilizer: once a month in spring and summer, diluted liquid fertilizer for green plants.
  • Cleaning: gently wipe the large leaves with a damp cloth to preserve their shiny glow.

Decor Ideas & Plant Combinations

Its very large shield-shaped leaves are enough to visually structure a space — placed alone in a bright corner, it immediately creates an architectural focal point without additional arrangement.

  • In XXL jungle composition: pair it with a Strelitzia nicolai with large upright fronds and a Monstera deliciosa — three large tropical plants, three contrasting leaf shapes and silhouettes, instant lush jungle vibe.
  • In Alocasia collection: pair it with the giant Alocasia macrorrhiza and the compact Alocasia Dragon Scale — three Alocasias, three sizes, and three different textures, a coherent collection from floor to shelf.
  • Decorative pot: a large natural Selin basket or a large matte ceramic pot highlights the plant’s stature without weighing it down.

Verdeia Tips

  • Allow space from the start: at 90 cm on delivery and up to 150 cm at maturity, choose a permanent spot with enough lateral space for the large leaves to spread freely without being constrained by walls or furniture.
  • Normal dormancy period in winter: Alocasia may lose one or more leaves and slow down considerably — reduce watering and wait for spring to return without worry.
  • Wipe leaves regularly: dust dulls the shiny dark green and bronze-purple highlights — a monthly wipe with a slightly damp cloth is enough to reveal the foliage’s full beauty.

Color: Blue
My Princess loves playing and chewing on these. She alternates between all 3. It keeps her busy from chewing on my slippers. Very durable toys.

Color: Purple
It’s important for you to know: it’s hard. It’s a hard toy. It’s a bit heavier than normal dog toysx but it’s perfect for dogs who destroy every toy.. I have a 30lb 2 y old baby and they keep her entertained for sure. They are s good size. I honestly love it. My dogs love it too. It was a good purchase :)
