Among the most unique and wonderful things nature has created are succulents. They come in many different shapes and sizes, and they are drought-resistant and easy to care for. Introducing one of the stunning Octopus plants, known as Didierea trollii, a fascinating rare succulent native to Madagascar. It gets its common name, octopus tree or octopus plant, from its unique and captivating growth habit, which resembles the tentacles of an octopus. This Trolli species was named after Wilhelm Troll, a botany professor at the University of Mainz and the founder of the botanical garden in Mainz, Germany.

The octopus plant is characterized by long, slender stems that develop in a twisting and curling way, mimicking the tentacles of an octopus. These stems initially grow along the ground and then stand upright, reaching up to 10 feet long and 15 feet wide, making a captivating and amusing display. The smooth stems and grayish-white thorns are surrounded by green, fleshy leaves that are frequently arranged spirally, giving the plant an even more octopus-like appearance.

This low-maintenance succulent plant can be easily propagated through stem cuttings. It produces greenish-white flowers with pink stamens that bloom in summer. Additionally, the octopus plant is safe for humans and pets, making it a safe choice to have around your home.

Watering Needs

When it comes to watering the Octopus Plant, it's important to strike a balance. This succulent is well-adapted to arid and semi-arid environments, so it doesn't require frequent watering. Overwatering can actually be detrimental to the octopus plant's health.

To meet the watering needs of your Octopus tree, it's best to follow the "soak and dry" method. This means thoroughly watering Didierea trollii and allowing the soil to dry out completely before watering again. It's important to ensure that the soil is well-drained to prevent water from sitting around the roots, which can lead to root rot.

In general, it's recommended to water the Octopus Plant about once every two to three weeks during the growing season, which is typically in the spring and summer. However, it's important to adjust the watering frequency based on the specific conditions of your environment. Factors such as temperature, humidity, and the type of soil mix used can influence the succulent plant's water needs.

Light Requirements

When it comes to light requirements, the Octopus Plant prefers bright, indirect light. It thrives in a spot where it can receive a good amount of bright, filtered sunlight throughout the day. However, it's important to protect it from intense, direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves of your octopus plant. These plants are native to thickets (mini forests) and thrive in the shade of other trees.

To provide the ideal light conditions for your succulent, you can place it near a window that receives bright, indirect light. East or west-facing windows are frequently good choices. If you notice that your Didierea trollii is not getting enough light, you can supplement its light intake with artificial grow lights specifically designed for succulents.

Keep in mind that the Octopus Plant is a slow-growing succulent, so it may not require as much light as some other succulent varieties. However, it's always a good idea to monitor the plant and adjust its light exposure as needed. If you notice the leaves stretching or becoming pale, it may be an indication that the plant needs more light.

Optimal Soil & Fertilizer Needs

To meet the optimal soil and fertilizer needs of the Didierea trollii, it's important to provide well-draining soil and a balanced fertilizer.

For the soil, you'll want to use a well-drained mix that mimics its natural habitat. These specialty soil mixes have been precisely developed to imitate well-draining desert soils. Commercial succulent soil is affordable and available online or at Home Depot. We believe the best option is to use our specialty succulent potting mix that contains over 5 natural substrates and organic mycorrhizae to promote the development of a strong root system that helps your succulent to thrive.

When it comes to fertilizing the Octopus Plant, a balanced natural NPK fertilizer (5-10-5) formulated for succulents can be beneficial. During the growing season in spring, you can fertilize it once a year. However, it's important to avoid over-fertilization, which can harm the plant.

Remember, it's always best to adjust the frequency and strength of fertilization based on the specific needs of your Octopus Plant. Observing the plant's growth and overall health will help you determine if it requires more or less fertilizer.

Hardiness Zone & More

The Octopus tree is native to the arid regions of Madagascar. It is well-suited to warm and dry climates, making it suitable for hardiness zones 9-11. It thrives in temperatures between 70-85°F but can tolerate slightly cooler temperatures down to 60°F.

In terms of humidity, the Octopus Plant prefers low to moderate humidity levels. It can tolerate dry air and does not require high humidity to thrive. However, it's important to avoid excessive humidity or stagnant air, as it can lead to fungal diseases or rot. Good air circulation is beneficial for the Octopus tree plant's overall health.

To create the ideal environment for your Octopus tree-like succulent, ensure that it is placed in a warm and well-ventilated area with good air circulation. Avoid overwatering, as the plant is adapted to arid conditions and can be susceptible to root rot if kept in consistently moist soil.

Be sure to add Didierea trollii octopus plant to your collection today and elevate the beauty of your home or garden with this stunning-looking plant.

Good Sport Watch
Color: Blue/Black
This is a good sport watch. I wear these to work in all sorts of conditions...and they take a beating. I have to get the unisex watches/bands as I have thick wrists for a woman and women's watchbands generally don't fit me. I can't wear the metal watch bands because when I flex my wrist they break. I can't wear the leather bands because when I sweat the band just deteriorates and falls apart. These woven bands are just perfect. I also like that it is velcro. That way you can adjust it perfectly to your wrist. I have worn these watches for nearly 15 years. It has two time functions - so that you can have regular time and maybe the time in another country. It has a split lap stop watch so that you can time each lap as well as your full run. Time, date, alarm, and hour beep if you so desire. It also has a back light which is really handy to tell time in the dark. Only problem with that is at about the year mark, the battery is so low that the light will come on, but the numbers disappear. But, well, it is what it is. Some reviewers have complained that the band is rather small fitting around the wrist. I am a woman and I bought a womans Timex once. The band was EXTREMELY small and barely fit me at all. It would come off a lot of the time because there was barely any velcro to wrap around. This watch is probably more of a unisex watch. Not a woman's per se, but not a big man's watch either. It is about in the middle. I have a 7.5" wrist and that is about as large of a wrist that this watch will fit. The women's watch that I had previously had would only fit a 7" wrist.

Great no frills watch, love it.
Color: Blue/Black
This watch is a really nice and is perfect for me. It tells the time (duh!), the date and has a stopwatch feature I never use. Mostly I like that it is a no frills product, but it does its job. This is great for people that actually want something that tells the time and not some fancy gold bracelet to impress the ladies. Although I spend most of my time in front of a computer, I imagine this piece would be great for someone with an active lifestyle (biking, running, etc.). The watch itself is mostly plastic and watch-proof and the band is a fabric velcro. For a while I had the older model with a rubber strap and I like this new model much better. The strap is comfortable and easy to take on and off. I wish the strap was a little bigger though, it might be too small for someone with really fat arms. It does have an indiglo feature although I had the older model and the indiglo died after like 6 months. Hopefully this one will last. What can I say, its a watch. If you are looking for something simple with a classic design, look no further.

Everything I expected.
Color: Black/Red
Not the watch I would want as an adult but fits my son perfectly. It’s durable, red and makes him happy. It should last him until he is old enough to get a job and make his own style and life choices.

Timex now poor quality
Color: Blue/Black
These watches used to last me years. The past two of these have died in under 6 months. Worthless junk. Will avoid Timex from now on. A single drop of water and the button sends the watch into black screen and reset.

Good basic digital watch for women
Color: Black/Gray Stripe, Color: Black/Gray Stripe
Okay, so it's a great watch for women with small to medium wrists. Here's my pros and cons list: Pros: - Super easy to set. The package insert does NOT include instructions. This is my first Timex Expedition watch, so I had no experience going in. All you do is press Set and you use the Start and Stop buttons to move up and down, respectively, through the settings. Easy enough! - I love the simplicity of the watch. It's simple and easy to read. - It has the day of the week AND the month AND the date. I wanted to make sure any watch I get has these features. - The watch band seems high quality. It is fabric/nylon, so it should hold up for several years (we'll see I guess). - The Indiglo is pretty and works great in the dark! Cons: - I have to tighten the band as tight as possible in order to prevent the watch from wobbling around my wrist. It may be because my wrist is small and the watch itself is a bit heavy in comparison. I AM new to wearing a watch, so maybe it's just something I have to get used to. - The display is perfect, but only when looking at it straight on (when facing you directly). If you were to glance over at your watch while you're typing on your computer, you can't see the time. It's too blurry. So the viewing angles are terrible. You can only see the time if you look directly at it. Again, this might be an issue with all digital watches, but I sort of expected more in today's technological world. This is probably my biggest con and biggest disappointment. - The band holder is also nylon, so I had some trouble getting the extra band into the band holder. Now that I think more about it, I'm not sure what a better alternative would be for a nylon band... maybe if they glued the band holder on to the band, it wouldn't move around so much when trying to insert the band into the holder. Once you're inserted it, it seems to stay in place, though. So that's good. But I can see it loosening up and not working well in the future. I've only had this watch since yesterday, so I haven't been able to test its waterproofness yet. I will update this review if I am unhappy with the waterproofness. Overall, it's exactly what I was looking for: a basic digital watch that shows the day and date, with a band that is small enough to fit my female wrist. However, I would have liked it better if the price was $10-15 less than what I paid for it. UPDATE: I've since moved on to a few other watches since this one. I have concluded that I do NOT like having a cloth/nylon watch band, and I prefer the rubber/plastic bands now. The nylon band takes way too long to dry after a shower, whereas the plastic bands don't need ANY drying time. There are a lot of good plastic banded watches out there, and I've tried a few no-name brands on Amazon and have been happier with them than I was with this Timex. They are also not as heavy and floppy on my wrist.
