Scientific Name
Philodendron erubescens (blushing tree-hugger) var. 'Imperial Red'

Common Name
Imperial Red Philodendron, Red Stem Philodendron, Blushing Philodendron

Origin
Tropical areas of South/Central America

Description
This shape-shifting aroid is thought to have first been cultivated in Columbia, and its thick glossy leaves are sure to add some drama and interest to any space. The Imperial Red gets its name from its new growth, which comes up in a deep red and matures into a dark green/purple. This low-maintenance plant is also shade tolerant, so great for the home or office.

Light
Place in moderate to bright indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight as this can scorch the leaves.

Water
Allow the top two inches of soil to dry out in between waterings (these plants are easy-going so if you wait a little longer to water don't panic!). Ensure good drainage and don't allow to sit in water.

Humidity
Appreciates above average humidity, but will do just fine in most standard household humidity. Will appreciate an occasional misting, especially if in a dryer spot.

Soil
Use a chunky, well draining mix. Repot every two years in spring as the plant grows.

Food
Will benefit from a light feed throughout spring and summer.

Temperature
Average household temperatures of about 18-28° are fine- try not to place somewhere where temperatures dip below 12°C for extended periods.

Pet-safe
No, this plant is toxic to pets and small humans.

Sprouts Top Tips
Dust can build up on the big leaves, so wipe with a soft cloth occasionally. Rotate the plant now and then to promote even growth. Avoid draughty spots.

    Tasha's favorite toy
    Color: Blue
A little smaller than expected, but my puppy loves it! We've only had it for a few days, but it seems like it will hold up well.

    Not for Destructive Dogs
    Color: Blue
It might be okay for a little dog, but my heeler had it dismantled in short order and I threw it away. Cute toy, but not for a destructive dog.

    Fantastic octopus
    Color: Blue
This toy is everything for my 15 lb schnauzer. Tons of crinkles in each of 8 legs and squeezes easily at head. He has over 75 toys and is one of his top 5 toys now. Great size not too big. Dog see blue and yellow so a plus. Rest of colors to them are shades of black, greys and to white.

    Cute and fun!
    Color: Blue, Color: Blue
This was exactly as described! The head has a squeaky and the legs crinkle. I have a small dog who does not destroy her toys so I think this will last a long time. So far—she loves it!!

    great dog toy
    Color: Blue
My dog loves it. It's really crunky. nicely made. only 4 stars because of packaging, careful if opening plastic bag with scissors, really stuffed in a very small bag.
