Key Features:

  • Hardy Deciduous Tree: A resilient tree that thrives in various climates and soil types, making it a low-maintenance addition to your garden.
  • Produces Sweet, Date-Like Fruits: Yields an abundant harvest of small, sweet fruits that are perfect for fresh eating, drying, or cooking.
  • Great for Snacking and Cooking: Versatile fruit that can be enjoyed fresh, dried, or used in a variety of recipes, including desserts, teas, and sauces.
  • Nutrient-Rich Superfood: High in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, offering numerous health benefits.
  • Easy to Grow: Suitable for a wide range of climates, from hot and dry to cold and frosty, making it ideal for home gardeners.

Growing Tips for Jujube Seeds:

  1. Planting: Start seeds indoors in early spring. Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours before planting to improve germination rates. Sow seeds 1/2 inch deep in a well-draining seed-starting mix. Keep the soil consistently moist and warm (70-85°F) until germination, which may take several weeks.
  2. Soil: Prefers well-drained, sandy or loamy soil with a pH of 5.5-7.5. Jujube trees are tolerant of poor soils but thrive in nutrient-rich conditions.
  3. Watering: Water regularly during the first year to establish roots, then reduce watering once the tree is established. Jujube trees are drought-tolerant but will benefit from occasional deep watering during dry spells.
  4. Sunlight: Requires full sun for optimal growth and fruit production. Ensure the tree receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
  5. Maintenance: Minimal maintenance required. Prune in late winter to remove dead or crossing branches and shape the tree. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
  6. Fertilization: Feed with a balanced fertilizer or compost in early spring and mid-summer to promote healthy growth and fruiting.

Culinary Uses and Recipe Ideas:

Jujube fruits are versatile and can be used in a variety of dishes:

  • Fresh Eating: Enjoy fresh off the tree for a naturally sweet, chewy snack.
  • Drying: Dry Jujube fruits for a delicious, date-like snack that can be enjoyed year-round.
  • Baking: Incorporate dried Jujubes into breads, muffins, cakes, and cookies for added sweetness and texture.
  • Teas and Tisanes: Use dried Jujube slices to make a soothing, naturally sweet tea.
  • Cooking: Add to savory dishes, stews, and sauces for a unique sweet and tangy flavor.

Recipe Idea - Jujube Tea: Slice a handful of dried Jujube fruits and add to a pot of boiling water. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until the tea is infused with the rich, caramel-like flavor of the Jujubes. Serve hot, sweetened with honey or agave, for a soothing and nutritious drink.

The best devotional ever!
Format: Paperback
I have read many devotionals through the years in conjunction with the Bible. This one is the best of all of them. I first heard of Lilias Trotter when I bought my granddaughter the children's book about her: Lily: The Girl Who Could See by Sally Oxley, Tim Ladwig with Miriam Huffman Rockness. While waiting for it to arrive, I watched the movie/documentary about Lilias Trotter's life Many Beautiful Things(2015)(You can view it free on YouTube). Miriam Huffman Rockness is integral to the film and all the research on the late artist and missionary's life. The Lord spoke an urgency and determination to Miriam's heart in preserving the legacy of Lilias Trotter. Without Mrs. Rockness, I believe Lilias Trotter's art, journals, and mission work would have lingered and disappeared into relative obscurity. God made Lilias Trotter special and she lived her life for His glory and service. After watching the film, I downloaded Lilias Trotter's Parables of the Cross on Kindle. I loved it, but the kindle version didn't contain the artwork she'd completed to go with this book. Her art and her words go hand-in-hand. It left me wanting something with both. I decided to order this devotional. This is a triple blessing! It has excerpts from Lilias' journals and writings plus her artwork at the start of each devotional plus a daily devotional inspired by these. Miriam Huffman Rockness brings application to today and ties it to her own life of service. I know Lilias and Miriam will have great talks in eternity. Thank goodness we still have Miriam. I will be reading more of the books the Lilias Trotter Legacy group makes available.

Only Excerpts and Art in Book From Lilias Trotter
Format: Paperback
Lilias Trotter is one of my favorite authors. It is my own fault that I didn't read the title careful enough to realize that it's the authors own personal thoughts about things Lilias said or painted that is the main content of the book. She's a good writer and I appreciate her personal reflections, but it's not what I assumed. The printing is well done and it's always a gift to see Lilias artwork

Beautiful gift book.
Format: Paperback
The quotes stimulate me to journal my own thoughts. I bought one for myself and one for a friend. It would make a nice pairing with her biography, “Until the Day Breaks”.

Beautiful!
Format: Paperback
I have just discovered Lilias Trotter and her writings and paintings. Beautiful watercolors evoking all aspects of her life especially spent in Africa are on each page with a snippet of a quote from her writings. Even without journaling, it's pleasure to page through admiring her wonderful talent and Godly perspective.

Beautiful Journal Type of book
Format: Paperback
As my friend said when she opened it...it's so beautiful, I don't want to write in it! Just a paperback type of journal, but for Lilias Trotter admirers, it's a treasure.
