About Tales from the Darkside (TV Series) (1983-1988)
Tales from the Darkside (1983-1988) was George Romero's anthology series that brought horror stories to syndicated television with a fraction of the budget but none of the compromised ambition. The show's opening sequence—showing idyllic nature footage transforming into something sinister while a narrator speaks of "the dark side" we pretend doesn't exist—remains one of television's most effective horror intros. Episodes adapted stories by Stephen King, Clive Barker, and Harlan Ellison, while original tales explored everything from cursed objects to vengeful spirits. Despite its modest production values, Tales from the Darkside featured early work from future stars and delivered genuine scares that proved horror anthology television could thrive outside the prestige Twilight Zone mold.
