This daylily has small, 3 3/4" blooms that grow strong on scapes around 20" tall in our East Tennessee garden. Right at home in the front of the border, this daylily is also a good size for a container.
Fun Fact: Mexican Maiden is registered as a nocturnal daylily. This means it opens in the afternoon instead of the morning, giving you color longer into the evening.
As a mid season bloomer, we begin to see the bright blooms of Mexican Maiden around the middle of June. If you live to our north, you'll see them a bit after we do. If you live to our south, you'll notice them a couple of weeks before us.
Mexican Maiden is a dormant daylily. That means it is best grown in areas that receive a sustained winter cold period like those in zones 8 and lower.
We love to see this cheerful looking beauty in our garden. For a landscape that's hard to forget, plant it with soothing lavender and deep purple daylilies or try it with bright orange, sizzling hot pink and warm yellow. Gorgeous!
