The Croton Mammi (Codiaeum variegatum) is a tropical plant native to Southeast Asia. Its uniqueness in the Croton family lies in the shape of its leaves — narrow, wavy, almost twisted — giving them a uniquely graphic texture compared to the broad, flat leaves of other varieties. The green, yellow, orange, and red colors intensify with light and change throughout the seasons.

Like all Crotons, it requires bright light, consistent humidity, and a stable location — once settled, do not move it. Note: irritating sap, toxic to pets. Discover more in our Croton collection.

Which Croton variety to choose?

Each Croton has a distinct leaf shape — this is what sets them apart beyond their colors. Here are the available profiles:

  • Croton Mammi (this plant) — narrow multicolored wavy leaves, H60 cm | Pot Ø17 cm. The most textured and graphic.
  • Croton Wilma — elongated wavy leaves, bright colors, same size H60 cm | Pot Ø17 cm. Same shape, wider leaves.
  • Croton Dreadlock — very narrow twisted leaves, H70 cm | Pot Ø19 cm. The most dramatic and original.
  • Croton Petra — classic broad oval leaves. The most classic and accessible.
  • Croton Magnificent — very large broad leaves, XXL size H110 cm | Pot Ø27 cm. The most imposing.

The Mammi is the ideal choice if you want a compact Croton with a unique leaf texture — its wavy leaves immediately set it apart from other varieties even from a distance. Find the Croton Sunny Star for an even more compact version H30 cm | Pot Ø12 cm.

Exposure & placement

The Croton Mammi is a tropical sun plant — light is its non-negotiable requirement.

  • Ideal exposure: bright indirect light — near an east- or west-facing window, a few hours of gentle sun are acceptable.
  • To avoid: scorching midday sun in midsummer, dark rooms that cause leaves to turn green and fall.
  • Temperature: 18–27 °C, no drafts or sudden changes.
  • Humidity: 50–70% ambient humidity — mist regularly or place a humidifier nearby.
  • Soil: light, well-draining universal potting mix.

If new leaves mostly come out green without bright colors, move the plant to a brighter spot — new shoots color properly as soon as there’s enough light. Check our light and humidity guide to find the right place.

Watering & care

  • Watering: moderate — keep the soil slightly moist without soaking it.
  • Frequency: 1 to 2 times per week in spring and summer, slightly reduced in winter.
  • Water: room temperature, filtered or rested for 24 hours — Croton is sensitive to lime.
  • Humidity: mist the foliage regularly — Mammi’s wavy leaves collect less dust than broad leaves but are sensitive to dry air.
  • Fertilizer: diluted liquid fertilizer for green plants, once a month in spring and summer.
  • Cleaning: gently wipe leaves with a damp cloth — wear gloves, the sap is irritating.

Crotons dislike sudden changes in environment — avoid moving it once its spot is chosen. Pick its permanent place upon arrival and check our new plant welcome guide to get off to a good start.

Decor ideas & plant pairings

The Croton Mammi is a statement plant — its colors and texture immediately catch the eye. It doesn’t need to be surrounded to stand out.

  • Solo in a bright corner: in a white or black ceramic pot, its multicolored wavy leaves create an immediate tropical focal point.
  • In contrast with solid green: pair it with a Zamioculcas or a Ficus to highlight its warm colors against a neutral dark green background.
  • In Croton arrangements: several Croton varieties together — same care needs, very contrasting leaf shapes. The Mammi adds a wavy texture to the arrangement.

Its new leaves often emerge green and gradually change color — each new shoot is a surprise to watch over the weeks.

Verdeia Tips

  • Choose its location before delivery — Mammi reacts to location changes by dropping leaves. Plan its final spot before arrival and do not move it once placed.
  • Leaf drop on delivery is normal — slight loss during the first 2 to 3 weeks is a usual reaction to the change of environment. Stabilize conditions and wait.
  • Colors fading: lack of light — if foliage gradually turns green, move the plant closer to a window. New leaves will regain their colors.
  • High humidity in winter — heating dries the air and causes brown tips. Mist 2 to 3 times a week or place a humidifier nearby. See our winter plant care guide to adapt to the cold season.
  • Sap is irritating — wear gloves — any stem cut releases irritating white latex. Wear gloves when cleaning and pruning.
  • ⚠️ Toxic to pets and humans — the latex and leaves are toxic if ingested. Keep out of reach of cats, dogs, and young children. See our plants and pets guide for suitable alternatives.

Uncomfortable
Color: Light Beige, Size: 38DD
In my search for a comfortable well-fitting bra, I came across this one. Reviews were good, so I ordered one. Half way through the day, I had to take it off. This is the most uncomfortable bra ever. This one went on to the "uncomfortable pile" pretty quick Not full coverage and not supportive. Side coverage is pretty good but straps are thin and do not lift.

Best Bra for Top Heavy Girlies!
Color: Light Beige, Size: 40C
I tried HSIA in the past but non of the bras fit right but this bra is the best! I’m glad I gave HSIA another chance because this is the best bra I’ve ever had! I’m already top heavy and doesn’t add extra bulk. It’s comfortable and breathable. In top of all that it’s affordable!

Good Price, Great Bra
Color: Dark Pink, Size: 44G
These bras are outstanding! Both the band and cup size fit are exactly as they should. Having bottom heavy breast means I always have to have a underwire. Lace material with underwire can be tricky for us with larger bra sizes, as the underwire can be uncomfortable and the lace tends to be hard and scratchy on the skin. A beautiful garment can become uncomfortable and tear easily, if not made well. That has not been my experience with these bras at all. I have purchased them several times. The material is nice and softens after it has been washed. They maintain shape and hold well. For this quality and delicacy, I would normally pay upwards of $60 per bra. With these, I get great price, quality material and excellent comfort, style and fit.

Holy S*** this bra is amazing.
Color: Black, Size: 42G
I’m sure you are coming here reading reviews thinking “I don’t know. No bra has ever fit me right before. How will I know this bra is any different?” And let me be the first to tell you I was right there with you. I have been bra shopping for what feels like forever. For context I am a G cup and finding bras that fit nice seems like something I’d only find in my dreams. I have gotten bras from Torrid, Victoria Secret, Lane Bryant, Kohls, Walmart, you get the idea. Yes I know there are plenty of other sites but I don’t want to spend $80+ for a bra! Between them either hurting like hell from the wire, feeling like I was wearing a corset that was made for a door, or having absolutely no support/coverage, I contemplated just wearing no bra at all. I had such “luck” that I thought “maybe if I wear a sports bra all the time these problems would go away.” You guessed it! They in fact did not. I even tried no underwire and sure the wire pain was gone but good ol back pain came in at full swing. I would have constant issues with spillage and not feeling supported (and DONT even get me started on the uniboob)that I began to think I was the problem. Fortunately, a couple of days ago, I had discovered HSIA. I can’t stress enough to you how wonderful this bra is. It’s not only supportive but it’s also comfortable, breathable, and full coverage. And a added bonus: IT LOOKS AMAZING. This bra has changed my depressive outlook on bras to the most positive outlook. So much so I’m wearing this bra FOR FUN. 10/10 would recommend. It fits true to size. Straps are comfortable, no pinching. Under wire is very comfortable and does not dig into my rib cage. There is no padding, but still feels/looks great. Some shirts you can see the lace material but they have another bra that is smooth (I bought that one too) that fits just as great. I personally did not experience any itching like some other people were saying but I’d say just give it a try. If you made it this far reading this just buy it and see for yourself :)
