Its popularity is due to its incredibly easy growth and its beautiful pastel hues, which range from pink, purple, and yellow in full sun to blues, greens, and silvers in partial shade. With time, the stems will grow long and branch, cascading out of containers, but can also be trimmed regularly to maintain a compact form. Beginner succulent enthusiasts will appreciate how easy it is to propagate this plant, and its misnomer species epithet should not deter anyone from adding it to their collection. Native to Mexico rather than Paraguay, its origins are thought to be in the Chihuahuan Desert, yet it has yet to be found growing wild. When in bloom in spring or summer, it displays stunning star-shaped, white flowers with red speckles.
