The Luc's Garcinia fruit tree, known as Mexican Mangosteen or Luc's vleerackerri, is prized for its tropical fruits that blend sweet and tangy flavors “like a mangosteen mixed with a mango”.

Native to Mexico, it's similar in appearance as Achachairu. It has been described as having more acidity and "bite" (hence a common name limoncillo) than achachairu. It is one of the few Garcinia's that have a relatively high cold tolerance.

Luc's Garcinia fruit tree was cultivated from seeds sourced from Mexico, meticulously grown in an indoor greenhouse in the Netherlands under LED lights. Planted in well-draining soil, the seeds received optimal conditions simulating natural sunlight. The controlled environment of the greenhouse ensured consistent temperatures between 20-25°C and moderate humidity levels.

Luc's Garcinia, is prized for its small, round bright yellow fruit which are double or sometimes triple seeded, typically as large as tennis balls that blend sweet and tangy flavors. In its native regions of Mexico and Central America, the fruits are enjoyed fresh or used in jams and desserts. Rare fruit collectors that have compared different Garcinia fruits mention the good pulp to seed ratio of the fruit.

Shipped with confidence from our nursery in the Netherlands, centrally located in Europe, ensuring swift delivery. Each tree is securely packaged in a special blister in a sturdy cardboard box, guaranteeing protection during transit. This method ensures that your tree arrives fresh and in pristine condition, ready to thrive in their new environment upon arrival. A care sheet is included in the box.

Properties and care

Luc’s Garcinia can thrive in a pot in temperate climates with proper care. Use well-draining soil and place in a sunny spot indoors or outdoors during warm months.

Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Fertilize with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season.

Maintain humidity around 50-60% and keep temperatures between 0-35°C. Luc’s Garcinia is self-pollinating, so no special pollination is required.

Additional info

Luc’s Garcinia, scientifically named Garcinia intermedia, is a tropical evergreen tree, and a close relative to Mangosteen which is considered queen of all fruits. In Spanish-speaking countries, this fruit is often called Limoncillo.

Propagation of Luc’s Garcinia can be achieved through seeds or grafting. Seeds are extracted from ripe fruits and sown in well-draining soil, typically indoors or in a nursery setting. They require warmth and consistent moisture to germinate, usually taking several weeks or even months to sprout. They grow a big taproot, so it’s recommended to use an extra deep pot if you grow it in a pot.

Grafting, particularly onto rootstock of related Garcinia species, is another common method to propagate selected varieties for better fruit production and disease resistance.

Luc’s Garcinia thrives in tropical and subtropical climates, preferring rich, organic soil with good drainage and ample sunlight. It is a slow-growing tree that reaches heights of about 6-10 meters. The tree bears tennis ball size, round fruits that ripen to yellow, with a sweet, tangy flavor similar to Achachairu and even mangosteen. The fruits are enjoyed fresh, used in jams, preserves, and desserts, or processed into beverages and sauces.

Great for SuperChewers. Keeps my Golden busy.
Color: Bear, Color: Bear
My dog loves it and it keeps her busy for a while. She actually pulls it out of her toy basket and brings it to me when she wants it filled. I break her treats into some pieces that are easy to get and some a little harder. This way she doesn’t get them too fast or loose interest if they’re harder to get. Also, she’s had it for 3 months and there’s barely a mark on it and she’s still a puppy that chews her toys to pieces.

Mostly happy
Color: Grape
Have a 1 1/2 yr old Belgian Malinois who needs things to do. I bought these and he loved it. Bad thing, it took him 1 day to chew the rope off both grape and pineapple. The stems on the cherry were also chewed off. The rest of the toy is intact and he still loves it.

Came apart.
Color: Cherries
We were playing with it and the green part pulled off of the red part. I'm pretty sure that is not supposed to happen. I took the green part away from the dog because that part is too small for my pup to play with. But we continue to play with the red part. My dog likes the texture and the bounciness.
