CULTURE

Soil temperature: 70 - 75 degrees fahrenheit
Germination lighting: Dark required
Germination days: 4 - 8 days
Grow on temperature day: 55 - 60 degrees fahrenheit
Plant spread: 24"
Plant height: 48'' to 96"
Plant type: Annual
Maturation days: 70 days

Loosen enriched garden soil down to a 6" depth. When soil is consistently 70 degrees (for zone 6-7 usually June 1st) plant seed 1/2" deep and a minimum of 24" apart if your are going to pinch them, 6" to 12" apart if your are not going to pinch (see below). These are low maintenance and require nothing else other than weekly watering. We don't recommend you start sunflowers early in pots as they send a large tap root when germinating and in pots less than 6" deep will quickly become rootbound and not develop correctly.

These are a branching variety and you can choose to pinch them or not. If you don't pinch they will grow taller, up to 8', and usually produce one very large 6"-8" flower (they might still branch on their own). If you pinch them the plant will stay smaller creating more branches and produce more blooms in the 3-4" range. If you decide to pinch wait until the plant is about 1 foot tall, and has 4-5 sets of leaves, and pinch out the top set of new leaves with your fingertips (see the video above). We recommend you only pinch your sunflowers one time. Pinching is a personal preference and we do pinch our branching sunflowers.

The color of these sunflowers is very dependent on sufficient soil nutrient levels.  To achieve the deepest strawberry color we suggest you use a nutrient soil test to check your NPK and make sure your PH level is at least 7.

Great product that makes edging very fast
Size: 8" Edger New
Edging was quite a job because I had to do it with a hand tool. I have quite a few Greenwork tools, so I decided to purchase the edger. It works great and I am in general happy with it. The three downsides for me are that tool is quite heavy when it also has the battery in it, that the metal blade decreases in size rapidly because of the friction when edging near concrete, and that the wheel is in such a position that I have to bend substantially while the blade does not edge deep enough so that I have to lean the tool on the metal strip at the bottom of the tool.

Plenty of power. Easy to use.
Size: 8" Edger New
I was amazed at the power of this edger. Due to health issues we couldn’t give our lawn adequate attention. It hadn’t been edged in over a year. This edger cut thru the heavy overgrown grass. Maintaining the edging now is a breeze. It uses the same 80 volt battery as my blower👍. The only negative is there is no edge guide, but once I got used to it, it’s not really needed.

Uses same battery as the rest of my equipment
Size: 8" Edger New
Since I already have and like the Greenworks mower, string trimmer and blower it only made sense to get the edger. Even better that I didn’t need to buy more batteries. I tried another name brand electric edger and returned it for not holding a charge. This one works great! There’s charge left in the battery after everything has been edged. I was concerned how easy it would be to control but fell in love with it first time I used it. To use just pop the battery in, flip the thumb lever, squeeze and edge. Not as noisy as gas powered equipment and no cords to pull. Feels sturdy in my hands and a good weight that’s enough to not pop up if it hits something but not too much to be heavy to carry back to the shed.
