Why Buy Red Wiggler Worms?

Red wigglers (aka compost worms, red wrigglers, manure worms, or red worms) are considered some of the best composting worms for several reasons. Red worms:

  • Can quickly consume and process 1/2 their weight in just a few days.
  • Are easy to take care of and usually require less than 20 minutes per week.
  • Survive and thrive in wider temperature, moisture, and soil pH ranges than other worms.
  • Can consume many types of organic waste, and they are able to process the waste into rich vermicompost (aka worm castings).

In addition, most composting worms and red wigglers grow to 2-4 inches and are a fantastic protein-rich food for aquarium fish, chickens, pet turtles and lizards!

What's in Your Order of Compost Worms?

Your order will include red wiggler compost worms in fresh bedding, carefully packed in a branded, reusable sack. Your order will include:

  • Mostly mature adult compost worms

  • Instructions for unpacking and caring for your live worms.

Our compost worm population includes Eisenia Fetida (aka Red Wigglers) and Perionyx Excavatus (Malaysian Blue). These almost identical species compost and breed exceptionally well and are very similar in appearance).

When Will Your Red Wrigglers Order Ship?

We ship on Monday and Tuesday using USPS Priority and UPS. Most packages will arrive in 2-3 days once shipped.

We do not ship Wed-Fri due to weekend transit risks, where the worms can perish if they sit in a warehouse or delivery truck all weekend. Most orders received Wed-Sun will ship the following Monday.

You will receive an order confirmation after completing your order and a tracking number once the package is shipped.

**We're sorry that live worms can not yet be shipped to the states of Hawaii, Alaska or Puerto Rico.

What to do When your Red Wrigglers Arrive

    • Like other living creatures, red wrigglers are perishable and will not survive in certain conditions, so as soon as they arrive they should be brought inside.
    • The box with live compost worms should be opened and the cotton sack containing the worms should be opened as well. This helps increase air flow to the live worms and also cool them. NOTE: The worms may seem lethargic at first. This is because they have been confined to a small space and in transit for several days. We do not recommend refrigerating live worms.
    • As soon as possible (within a few hours at a minimum) the red wrigglers should be placed in the bin or pile where they will reside. Since the worms are shipped in their original bedding the entire bag of bedding and worms can be placed in the bin or pile.
    • For more info, see our guide on how to care for your live worms upon arrival.

Compost Worms for Sale & Red Wigglers for Sale: Frequently Asked Questions

How many red wigglers should I buy?

    • For composting in a worm bin we recommend 1 pound of compost worms per square foot of space. If you are starting a stackable worm bin, 1 pound of red wigglers is usually enough for your first tray. If you are new to worm composting, we recommend starting with a smaller order (e.g., 1 pound or less) of live worms until you are comfortable taking care of them.
    • If you are an experienced worm farmer or composter, we recommend 2 pounds of compost worms for every pound of food waste you would like to compost per day.

What if I'm going out of town when my worms are scheduled to arrive?

    • If you are leaving town within 3-4 days arrival of your worms, we recommend not ordering until you get back or letting us know so we can hold your order.
    • We ship using a 2-3 day service (UPS Ground, USPS Priority, or UPS 2/3 Day). However, these timeframes are not guaranteed by UPS or USPS and in some isolated cases packages can take 3-6 days to arrive.

What is your live delivery guarantee?

    • We guarantee that your worms will arrive alive and in good condition.

    • Because live worms are perishable and sensitive to heat, cold, and time in transit, any delivery issue must be reported within 3 hours of delivery.

    • To qualify for our live delivery guarantee, customers must contact us via email within that 3-hour window and provide clear photos or videos showing the issue with the worms and packaging.

    • If the worms arrive dead or in poor condition due to a shipping issue covered by our guarantee, we will work with you to make it right, which may include a replacement shipment, store credit, or another appropriate resolution.

    • Our guarantee does not apply to issues outside of our control, including but not limited to:

      • Packages left outside too long after delivery

      • Customers not being home or available to receive the shipment

      • Incorrect or incomplete shipping addresses

      • Damage caused (e.g., pets, critters) after the package has been delivered

    • For the best results, watch for the delivery using the tracking info and bring your worms inside as soon as they are delivered and open the package promptly.

Thank you for understanding that live worm shipping is a team effort and worms require immediate care once they arrive!

    Are compost worm bins smelly?

    • No - they shouldn't be if a few simple rules are followed (see our blog for more info). Worm bins should mostly smell slightly musky like grass and dirt.

How fast will my red wigglers reproduce?

    • As long as bin conditions remain favorable compost worms will reproduce very quickly. Mature red wiggler worms can reproduce as many as 1 cocoon per week, which on average will hatch 1-3 baby worms per cocoon. Upon hatching, baby compost worms will usually reach the juvenile stage and sexual maturity within 6-10 weeks.

    • Live worm reproduction is impacted by bin conditions, density, feed type, and time of year, so be patient and let nature take over! In good conditions your red wigglers population should reproduce and double in size every 3-6 months.

Do you ship red wigglers year-round?

    • We ship red wiggler compost worms year round via USPS and UPS Priority and within 1-2 business days of your order (weather or transit times may move some orders to the following Monday).  Delivery times will depend on your location but on average the live worms should arrive within 3 days after Brothers Worm Farm ships them.

Trying times in Oxford Mississippi in 1933
      Format: Kindle
The Calamity Club features a cast of strong women and several weak men. The official charitable women are not charitable and the unofficial ones are courageous and are filled with good will. Stockett weaves a long tale of poverty, desperation, determination and sisterly love. Only two sets of sisters are blood related but those who are not, bond by working together for a common purpose. Stockett serves up humor and pathos in equal measure with a dash or two of realism. Her character development makes The Calamity Club well worth reading Like The Help, a screenplay should be forthcoming.

      So Good!
      Format: Hardcover
Some parts of this are reminiscent of The Help, but it is a brand new story. Even though it appears to be a LONG book (650 pages), it goes fast and is hard to put down. The story takes place in Mississippi in the 1930's. 24 year old Birdie travels to see her married sister in Oxford for the purpose of getting some financial help for her family. Her sister Frances married into a seemingly wealthy family, which for reasons that soon become clear, has now fallen on hard times. Eleven year old Meg lives in an orphanage and is treated badly by the volunteers that staff it. If her mom isn't going to come back and get her, then she wants to be adopted as soon as possible, but most people want babies, not older children. Charlie turns up at the house where Birdie is staying with her sister's family. She's bright and helpful, but what's her real story? How are they all connected? This story is at times hilarious and at other times heartbreaking. It has its share of villains, but most of the characters are likeable and you want them to succeed. Just HOW they succeed is the heart of the book, and I won't tell you and spoil the surprise. This is well worth reading, though, and I strongly recommend it.

      Outstanding book
      Format: Kindle
I loved this book so much that I'm sad that I've finished it. The story is fascinating, the characters well developed and the themes were important and heart wrenching. This is definitely one of the best books I ever read. I can't summarize the story without spoilers and I would not want to deny you the opportunity to enjoy the unfolding of this beautiful story. This is a book I will not forget and I look forward to Kathryn Society's next wonderful book. She is a tremendous author. Thank you Kathryn for the gift of this book!

      Worth the Wait
      Format: Kindle
Kathryn Stockett's The Calamity Club is well worth the wait, just as good or even better than The Help. This historical novel has all the literary ingredients to be added to the classics. This book is both engaging and horrifying since it reveals the cruel beliefs in Mississippi's past and explains the rigid mind-set of contemporary politics and culture. I was incensed by the ignorance and lack of empathy. However, as throughout history, the theme of women helping other women gave the story conflict, suspense, and lots of humor. The characters and plot are so engaging I would like a follow-up story, maybe a part two. I am ready for a movie version, if Meg and Birdie are well cast. The Calamity Club was worth the wait!

      Entertaining
      Format: Kindle
I read this book on Kindle in about 3 days. Birdie Calhoun, one of the main narrators, has got to be one of the most likable main characters a book could create. She’s practical, God-fearing, driven, smart, and loyal. Meg, the second narrator, is witty and humorous to listen to, especially since you’re seeing things through the eyes of an eleven year old orphan. There are a few big reveals throughout the book, and around the midpoint there is a shift in storyline which will tell you how the book got its name. I saw some reviews say the book is a bit long, which doesn’t bother me. I see how the length may be necessary given the fact that the author had to bounce between two separate story lines and then merge them in the end. My only feedback about the length would be there is a lot of time and detail during the middle of the book (especially Meg’s time with her adoptive family) but less time spent on the ending, leaving things a bit rushed and many characters’ fate ambiguous. I found myself wanting more closure for characters Frances & Mrs. Tartt, as well as the boarders such as Flossy. On a historical level, this book provides context for a dark time in America where society wanted to annex anyone deemed undesirable or peculiar, especially promiscuous women. Society was hyper focused on separating the pious from the “imbeciles” and punished anyone whose lives didn’t fit the perfect Christian mold. This caused characters like Frances and Mrs. Tartt to be obsessed with their reputation, and fear of tainted reputation is a huge factor in decision making amongst the main characters. Birdie, Meg, and Charlie seem to be the main characters willing to take huge risks and sacrifices for those that they love. This book inspired me to do some of my own research and I learned something new about American history.
