The Buttercup Winter Squash, a beloved heirloom variety, originated in the United States, particularly in the Midwest region. Within the Buttercup Winter Squash family, there aren't distinct subspecies, but this cultivar stands out for its exceptional taste, versatility, and storability.

The plant showcases a vine-like growth habit, producing round, slightly flattened fruits with a distinct turban-like shape. The squash has a dark green rind with lighter, creamy stripes and a prominent, deep-set blossom end. Its interior presents a vibrant, dense orange flesh that's sweet and nutty, perfect for a wide range of culinary applications.

Taste-wise, the Buttercup Winter Squash offers a rich, sweet flavor with hints of nuttiness and a creamy texture when cooked. It's ideal for roasting, baking, steaming, or pureeing into soups and sauces. Its dense flesh makes it an excellent choice for pies and desserts as well.

When planting from seed, Buttercup Winter Squash thrives in well-drained, fertile soil with good moisture retention. Sow seeds directly into the ground after the last frost date, ensuring a depth of about an inch and spacing them several feet apart. These squash plants appreciate full sun and consistent watering throughout the growing season.

Harvest Buttercup Winter Squash when the rind becomes hard and the stem starts to dry and crack. Proper curing in a warm, dry area enhances its flavor and extends its shelf life. With its delectable taste and ability to store well, the Buttercup Winter Squash remains a popular choice among gardeners and cooks seeking a flavorful and versatile addition to their harvest.

Great books! Hope there are more!
Format: Paperback
My 10 year devoured both books 1 & 2 in two days! She loves them so much and can’t stop talking about them. She is telling all her friends they HAVE to read them! I’m sure she will read them again and again. Thank you Sylvia Douye!

Amazing and inspiring
Format: Paperback
As a young transgender person this book fills me with a lot of hope for my future. I relate to his story so much. He gives me hope that one day I can medically transition even if it’ll be difficult. I would suggest this book to transgender people who are 14 and older. And if you read this one make sure to read the second one!

Really Wanted to Love This Book
Format: Paperback
I grew up in a time where there were very few LBGTQ books and I felt very much an anomaly. I heard great things about this book and wanted to read it. I found the book to be written super simply and not adding much to the conversation. I am glad it exists but it was super simplistic and it really doesn’t add much to the conversations around transitioning. It might be a great book for a kid just starting to figure out who they are. I left this book in a free library in a public space in hopes it gets read by someone who needs the message.
