Most potting soils on the shelf today are designed to fail. They are built around peat moss and synthetic wetting agents that break down within a single season, leaving you with compacted, lifeless media that cannot hold water, cannot feed your plants, and cannot support the biology that makes growing actually work. You end up buying more soil, more bottled nutrients, and more amendments just to keep your plants alive, and the cycle repeats every spring.

The BuildASoil 3.0 Starter Bundle gives you a different path. This is the same living soil system used by some of the most successful organic growers in the country, now packaged together with the one amendment that makes it sing. You get one cubic foot of our flagship BuildASoil 3.0 Recipe, a fully amended living soil ready to plant into on day one, paired with a three pound bag of Craft Blend, our all purpose dry top dress that feeds your soil biology and your plants throughout the entire grow.

Why this combination works for new growers

The 3.0 Recipe is built on a foundation of high quality compost, aeration, and a carefully balanced mineral package. It holds water properly, drains properly, and contains the microbial life that converts organic inputs into plant available nutrition. Craft Blend is the companion that keeps that biology fed. A small monthly top dress is all most plants need, which means no mixing bottles, no measuring milliliters, and no flushing. You water with plain water and let the soil do the work it was designed to do.

This bundle is built for the grower who watched our video about why most potting soils are designed to fail and wants to try the system without overthinking the order. It works for vegetables, herbs, fruiting plants, ornamentals, and houseplants. It works in containers, raised beds, and fabric pots. One cubic foot fills approximately one seven gallon container with a little left over, two three gallon containers, or three two gallon containers, making it a great size to try out and see the results.

What you get

One cubic foot of BuildASoil 3.0 Recipe living soil, fully amended and ready to use. One three pound bag of Craft Blend all purpose top dress. Free shipping on this bundle, included automatically at checkout.

Instructions for use

When your bundle arrives, open the bag of 3.0 Recipe and give it a gentle mix to redistribute any settling that occurred during shipping. Fill your container of choice, leaving about an inch of headroom at the top for top dressing and watering. Water the soil thoroughly with clean, dechlorinated water and let it sit for twenty four hours before planting. This rest period allows the biology to wake up and the moisture to distribute evenly throughout the container.

Transplant your seedlings or clones directly into the soil. No additional amendments are needed at planting. For the first two to three weeks, water with plain water only and watch your plants establish. Healthy living soil should stay moist but never soggy, and the surface should dry slightly between waterings.

Begin top dressing with Craft Blend approximately three to four weeks after planting. For most container sizes, a quarter cup to a half cup of Craft Blend per square foot of soil surface, applied once every three to four weeks, is the standard rate. Sprinkle the Craft Blend evenly across the soil surface, scratch it lightly into the top inch of soil with your fingers or a hand cultivator, and water it in. The soil biology will break the amendment down and deliver it to your plants over the following weeks.

For best results, mulch the soil surface with a light layer of compost, worm castings, or a living mulch such as clover. Mulching protects the biology from drying out and feeds the soil ecosystem between top dressings. Continue with plain water and monthly Craft Blend applications throughout the life of the plant.

What to expect

Living soil performs differently than synthetic media. Plants tend to grow steadily rather than in the boom and bust cycles common with bottled nutrients. Flavors and aromas in edibles and flowers tend to be more developed. The soil itself improves with each grow cycle rather than degrading, which means the bag you buy today is the foundation of a system you can reuse and amend for years to come.

The Epson F170 has been ideal for getting started with sublimation. It's easy to use, prints vibrant and defined colors, and has allowed me to personalize various projects with excellent results. As a beginner, it has given me a lot of confidence to learn and create without complications. I definitely recommend it for anyone starting out in sublimation.

No returns and no support. If it doesn't work properly, too bad.
Style: Printer & Inks, Style: Printer & Inks
I was fairly happy with my Epson ET 2800, but was told that I'd get better colors with the F170. So I bit the bullet. The installation went smoothly and I was printing in short order. It was when I started printing items that had some dark gray that I noticed the problem. It was printing green. I contacted Epson tech support and they answered the phone almost immediately. (And how rare is that??) The woman I spoke with seemed to be familiar with the problem and advised me to modify the printer preferences and change the color correction from "ICM" to "No color correction". Well, it wasn't printing green anymore. Now the grays were brown. At this point, she ran out of ideas and gave me an email address for the second level of tech support and asked if I'd send a photo of the printed fabrics showing the problem. I did. That was over three weeks ago. I've sent a couple of followup emails, but they're ignoring me. But the best news was discovering that there are no returns on this product. I didn't think that was a thing with Amazon and I've never had any problems before. So now the 30-day return window is about to elapse and it appears that I'm stuck with an oversized doorstop. In the photo I'm including with this review, the fabric on the upper-left was printed with my Epson ET 2800. On the upper right, the F170 with ICM color correction. On the bottom, the F170 with no color correction.

Epson SureColor F170 Sublimation Printer Rocks!
Style: Printer & Inks, Style: Printer & Inks
TI’m a newbie at sublimation, and this is my first sublimation printer. I love it! I can’t wait to make more things! I like that it’s not too large, but still can print up to 8.5x14”. The quality seems to be really good, but I also don’t have any other printer to compare it to. This was my very first project! I’m very happy with it so far!
