If you only know Gala Apples from the grocery store shelf, you are missing out on one of life's great pleasures! There is absolutely nothing that tastes as nice as homegrown fruit. Gala is the go-to sweet Apple, adapted to a very wide range of climates.

An easy-care, low-maintenance variety, the Gala Apple (Malus 'Gala') Tree produces a delicious early-season snacking Apple. The fruit is firm, juicy and sweet with a slight tart flavor. One of the very best early Apples, Gala has a lot going for it.

You'll appreciate the precocious Gala Apple Tree because they are well-known to produce from a young age. Gala Apple Trees fruit young and ripen early - years before other Apples.

Homesteaders, urban foodies, Edible Landscapers, and clean-eating proponents alike can feel happy about the high fiber, antioxidants, and vitamins A and C found naturally in Apples. If you've considered growing your own fruit tree, the Gala comes highly recommended.

First developed in New Zealand, this great-tasting import produces large, crisp Apples with rich flavor. Firm white flesh, a lovely floral fragrance, and a sweet, tangy snap. Hints of vanilla will make your taste buds smile.

In fact, Gala Apple Trees are in high demand around the world. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they'll start producing fruit as younger trees than other varieties. After all - who wants to wait for a harvest?

Galas are also dependably productive, setting a great crop year to year. Although considered partially self-fruitful in some zones, a pollination partner is recommended for the largest harvest. Also, for longer harvests, we recommend planting your early-season Gala Apple Tree with an early-season and a late-season pollinator tree. Try a mid-season Honeycrisp, a late mid-season Red Delicious and a late-season Granny Smith to enjoy a variety of wonderful fresh-picked Apples for 6 months!

It's delightful when Gala bursts to life in spring. The beautiful pink buds will open to reveal snowy white flowers, a sure sign that the tree is well on its way to producing bushels of Apples. With a Gala, you'll have plenty to share with family and friends. We're talking about bushel after bushel of delicious snacking Apples that the whole family can love from a single tree.

Throughout the summer, the Apples mature to a bright, overall red color, with bold red stripes over a yellow-green background. You can see the parents - Cox Orange Pippin, Golden Delicious and Red Delicious - in its coloration!

How to use Gala Apple Tree in the Landscape

The Apples are highly coveted for pies and sauces, and the tree itself would be an attractive addition to any yard.

Gala is an all-purpose dessert Apple. It's good for fresh eating, for salads, and for divine Applesauce. It keeps its shape during baking. Add other firm varieties to pump up the depth of flavor in baked goods. The Gala is a great variety to add a sugary, fresh flavor to an Apple juice blend. Press with Granny Smith, or other tart cider Apples, to bring up the sweetness of your juice blend.

People also love the way Gala Apples store so well. The Apples resist bruising and can be stored for up to six months. This means you could be eating your own home-grown Apples that were picked at peak ripeness as late as February and March. What a treat for you and your family!

#ProPlantTips for Care

As with all Apple varieties, Gala likes slightly acidic, well-drained soil with a pH between 6.0 to 6.5. However, it will tolerate wetter, heavy clay soils.

Plant in full sun for best performance! Especially the morning sun that dries the leaves of dew.

One of Gala's most attractive qualities is its wide range of adaptability. They'll grow well and produce a sweet crisp Apple in the low-chill climates of growing Zone 10. However, they are also very productive in the higher-chill climates of Zone 4.

Once established, the Gala Apple is drought tolerant. In warmer climates, it's important to mulch around the perimeter of your tree. This keeps the root system cool. However, please don't let the mulch touch the trunk, leave a gap all around the trunk.

In colder climates, select a location with good air circulation. Avoid low-lying areas of settling cold with little or no air movement.

It's easy to keep your semi-dwarf Gala pruned to remain at a safe picking height. Simply plan to do summer pruning to keep your tree to a reasonable height, say 6 - 8 feet tall.

This tree is a perfect blend of modern and old-fashioned, and it's big on taste as a result. The Gala is an attractive flowering tree that produces Apples that fall nothing short of irresistible in the taste department. It's also a beautiful tree that's an asset to your landscape.

Though there are many different selections of the Gala Apple, the original Gala is the one most referred to as the best. Gala Apple Tree is an easy-to-grow and adaptable tree that matures quickly.

This toy is awesome. It keeps my dog occupied for a good amount of time, which is hard to do! Pretty much any other toy I've gotten for my dogs, they've easily destroyed. The only other toy that they've enjoyed is the KONG Extreme Dog Toy, Large, Black . However, he has have gotten the hang of it and it only takes about 10-15 minutes to get out any treats inside. Also it has a rubbery smell that I don't particularly like. There are three different slits in this pickle toy. For my dog, it takes about 20-30 minutes to work on it and get the treats outs. The crevices are thin enough that it takes them some time to work at it, but flexible enough that you can use pretty much any treat in there. I think the toy is pretty resilient and durable. My dog can chew through anything. I was a bit afraid that they would become frustrated if they couldn't get the treats out that they would just bite through the toy instead. I've had these toys for 2 weeks and so far it's held up without any bite marks or parts chewed off. That's saying a lot. My Malinois even enjoys it without any treats inside. She'll bring it to me like a regular toy. It is a bit on the heavy side so I don't like throwing it around the house, however. Every dog is different but I have to say my dogs really enjoy this. I recommend this toy, and plan on trying out the other Starmark toys.

RECOMMENDED!!
I purchased this for my 68lb Staffy (but really, all our dogs share/ rotate) because the one he had been using wasn’t very challenging and this one looked like it might force him to work a little harder to get the treats out. I was right! He LOVES it - I love it - they ALL love it! There are 3 fairly deep crevices the you can push small treats down into so the dog has to lick them out (you could also use organic peanut butter - *I don’t recommend ever giving dogs any other type of PB as it contains too much salt, sugar, GMOs & preservatives). I take about 10 or so small “squishy” treats and stuff them as far down as I can and he works for almost an hour to lick them until they’re gooey (LOL) enough to be licked out! My other dogs do the same! All our dogs are rescued and “pitbull types” (except one small breed), so they’re strong chewers, but NOT destructive. ****I frequently see people in reviews complaining that their dog destroyed a toy made for “strong chewers.” There’s a HUGE difference between strong and destructive!! Mine are strong chewers, and we like to keep Benebones around here for the times they have the need/instinct to chew (which often!), but they are not destructive dogs. If you have a destructive dog, there is likely no toy on earth they won’t leave in pieces. Destructive dogs are often that way because their breed/age/required needs aren’t being met, so naturally they attempt to release that pent up energy onto toys (or even furniture/shoes/etc. It’s not the dog’s fault. It’s definitely not a manufacturer’s or seller’s fault. #1 Rule: Know your dog!! If they destroy most toys within minutes, they’re likely lacking exercise. If you’re exercising them to their breed & age requirements and they’re still destructive, you can work on either behavior modification or finding toys that they CAN’T destroy. Benebones, Nylabones, etc are great because they are very well made and even as the dogs chew little pieces off, it creates edges that clean their teeth. Win-Win!! These are things we’ve learned from running a canine rescue & rehab for over 20 years, which means fostering dogs of all backgrounds, personalities, ages and needs (90% of which are pibbles).

Almost the best, and great price point...
I love this toy - I give it to my toughest chewer stuffed up with kibble and p-butter that I've frozen an hour or two - and it's cool to play with unfilled too, as it's pliable and soft/bouncy while being also very durable. Starmark is my 3rd of 3 name brands I will buy for my dogs, due to my need for durability for tough chewers thus limiting what toys/brands I can even pick from (West Paw is one I'm now just trying, and Outward Hound is my usual go to over the years), and to be honest, between price and availability, I really want to move Starmark to my number 1 go to but....from what I can tell, the other two companies have great policies about releasing what/where their products are made (of), and I cannot seem to find out whether or not Starmark is also i.e. food-grade and/or whether they have a guarrented return policy or not so....a star off for that until/unless I can assure myself and you, reader, that the quality is just as good as the other two companies. To be fair though, and due to not being able to find any info on material qualities, this IS the one and only toy I have used, but they are also often sold at many local stores and so many of the other treat-toys in this brand have caught my eye, as far as types of toys available and ease to find if/when a replacement (or double to ship to my sister's dog!) is needed. I am thinking that, from what I've seen/felt at local stores for this brand, the durability is likely on par so...again, all going back to the material choice and manufacturing info, for me, that prevents this being a full 5 stars.

Keeps even the most destructive dogs entertained
I was hesitant to make this purchase but after I bought the starmark everlasting chew ball (which I also highly recommend), I gave this one a try. I was surprised how heavy it was, definitely only to be thrown outside as it is made out of solid rubber and could easily go through the tv screen if not careful. My dog is extremely destructive and this not only is very durable, it also keeps him entertained for up to 30 minutes at a time. I have not used the star mark treats specifically designed for it, but regular kibble fits into the grooves just fine. Also, if you put small pieces of chick-fil-a waffle fries, dogs go nuts for it. UPDATE: This toy keeps my rambunctious beagle mix entertained better and longer than any other interactive dog toys I have bought. Of all the toys my dog currently owns, (Starmark Bob-A-lot, Trixie Chess board, Starmark Treat-Dispensing chew ball, and several Kongs) this toy is by far his favorite and keeps him occupied while I get work done around the house, distraction-free. Because of it's made of such dense material, I do have one potential concern: since it's approximately the same size/weight as a full beer bottle) this toy might not be the best fetching choice if your dog is quick and tries to catch balls/frisbees in mid-air since it could bust up his/her head and teeth with it's momentum if he caught it wrong. - But if you don't plan on using this toy for fetching, it is a fantastic purchase for your furry pal.

The toy is fine. My dog outsmarted it.
The toy itself is durable and my dog enjoys it. The problem is that I guess my dog is too smart. The first time I gave it to her, it took her about 25 minutes to empty it. I thought I found a winner. The 2nd time-8 minutes. 3rd time-2 minutes. Oh well.
