Ficus elastica ‘Belize’

Ficus elastica ‘Belize’ is a variegated rubber plant with glossy oval leaves marked in green, cream and pink, often with reddish-pink midribs and warm colour on fresh growth. The colour is strongest when new leaves expand, then settles into a layered pattern as the leaf surface hardens.

This cultivar has the upright woody stems and thick evergreen leaves of Ficus elastica, with a brighter leaf palette than the plain green forms. Each new leaf emerges from a protective sheath before opening into a broad, leathery blade with irregular pale margins and red-flushed details.

Pink-variegated rubber plant foliage

  • Leaf pattern: Broad glossy leaves carry irregular green, cream and pink variegation.
  • Midrib colour: Reddish-pink midribs add extra colour through the centre of each leaf.
  • New growth: Fresh leaves often show stronger pink tones before the mature pattern settles.
  • Stem habit: Upright woody stems create a small indoor tree shape over time.
  • Pale tissue: The pale leaf sections can scorch or brown when sun, heat or watering changes too sharply.

Growth and background of Ficus elastica ‘Belize’

The species Ficus elastica is a tropical fig tree from wet tropical regions of Asia. In a pot, Ficus elastica ‘Belize’ keeps the species’ thick leaves, upright shoots and latex-bearing stems, while the pale and pink sections need filtered light, warmth and an evenly draining mix.

As the plant matures, the stem gradually becomes firmer and the leaf canopy becomes heavier at the top. Pruning above a node can encourage branching, while an unpruned plant usually keeps a cleaner single-stem or few-stem outline.

Light and watering for colourful Ficus elastica leaves

  • Light: Place in bright filtered light. Pale and pink leaf sections are more prone to scorching in harsh direct sun.
  • Watering: Let the upper potting mix dry before watering again, then water thoroughly and drain the pot fully.
  • Substrate: Use a free-draining mix with bark, perlite, pumice or similar mineral material to protect the roots from stale moisture.
  • Warmth: Keep temperatures steady, ideally above 18 °C, and avoid cold windowsills during winter nights.
  • Humidity: Moderate humidity helps curled new leaves open smoothly, especially in dry heated rooms.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during spring and summer. Avoid heavy fertiliser on a stressed or recently repotted plant.
  • Cleaning: Wipe leaves gently with a damp soft cloth so dust does not dull the glossy variegation.
  • Pruning: Trim above a node to manage height, allowing for latex sap from the cut stem.

Common issues on Ficus elastica ‘Belize’

  • Brown edges: Check for direct sun, dry heat or irregular watering, especially on pale leaf margins.
  • Sudden shedding: Review temperature changes, draughts and root moisture after moving or shipping.
  • Yellow lower leaves: Lift the inner pot and inspect drainage if the substrate stays wet for several days.
  • Slow, soft growth: Check whether the plant is sitting too far from a window and adjust placement gradually.
  • Sticky patches: Look for scale insects along stems and midribs before assuming the mark is only spilled sap.

Safety around Ficus elastica ‘Belize’

Ficus elastica ‘Belize’ contains milky latex in its leaves and stems. The sap can irritate skin and eyes, and ingestion may irritate the mouth or digestive tract of pets. Keep the plant out of reach of chewing pets and children, and use gloves when cutting stems or removing damaged leaves.

Name and botanical placement

Ficus elastica belongs to Moraceae, the fig family. Ficus comes from the Latin word used for fig, and elastica refers to the elastic latex associated with the species.

New flushes bring pink over cream-and-green leaves before the blades harden into a glossy rubber plant canopy.

Really good pillow!
Size: King (Pack of 1)
This is the first pillow that I have owned in the last 10 years in which I have not experienced any neck pain. It's the right density, comfort level, and is a high-quality item. I am a side and stomach sleeper. Try this pillow and I think you'll be happy.

OMG I finally found the one
Color: White, Size: Standard
I use to have a pillow that I took it everywhere. It finally was gone I couldn’t find one that I had. So my quest for the perfect pillow was 17 different pillows. I finally found the one!!! This pillow is soft but is sturdy. My head lays on the pillow and doesn’t fall to the bed. My neck isn’t tilted in an awkward position. The coolness of the pillow is amazing. This pillow is everything I was looking for. The price is 100% worth it. Edit ok I still love the pillow but you have to flip it because all the stuffing moves to the other side. The pillow still has enough that it was still comfortable. I wish that the stuffing would stay in the same pot.

Nice Pillow
Color: White, Size: King
I waited a few weeks before writing this review. It’s very difficult to find Info on this pillow but here’s my take on it. Height: It’s a nice height on the pillow. It has a 2” gusset which upon my research is a way to keep the inside foam and down at least 2” high. Types of sleeping: I find this pillow to be comfortable in all sleep positions. I do find that because it’s not full foam that you don’t get that full compression feeling so back sleep is not as comfortable to me as other pillows I’ve used but still very comfortable Back: Has enough height that my neck is supported. It’s not full foam so you will have to adjust your head position so it fits perfectly into the curve of the pillow for best support. Side: Thick enough that the compatibility with my mattress sink allows my body to be comfortably aligned. I have a medium hybrid tempurpedic luxe breeze. Stomach: Just barely thick enough to be comfortable. I sleep somewhat weird and like my arm to go under the pillow. This gives me the correct height for stomach sleeping if I put my head on the bottom part of the pillow. This also allows me to breathe lol. Cooling This pillow has awesome cooling. Even when I wake up the pillow is still ice cold. Never had this feeling before and I’m a hot sleeper so i really like this. Granted I do set my house temperature to like 73 to sleep. The sensor is right next to my bed so it’s a true 73. Material This has foam outer layers and a fiber fill. It really does feel unique and it’s comfy. It’s a decently heavy pillow too in king so that gives confidence there is good quality foam and materials in it. One thing to know, the cover is “slippery” and it took some getting used to, even though I use a pillow case I can feel it slides in the case more than other pillows. I think it’s because the cover is very thing to promote airflow and heat transfer. I wish it was adjustable for the price. Price I like the pillow, and got mine on sale. But I do think it’s a bit overpriced for what it is. Evidently the sale price I got wasn’t a good price and it’s gone as much as 20% off. Oh well.

Great Cooling, But Lacking Support
Color: White, Size: Standard
I have to agree with some of the other reviews—this pillow just doesn't offer enough support. It initially feels plush and inviting, but after a minute or so, your head sinks too far and ends up pressing against the underlying latex, which has a rubbery, somewhat uncomfortable feel. It might be an excellent fit for those with smaller frames, but for me, it fell short in terms of proper neck and head support. On the plus side, the cooling aspect is impressive. It's cool to the touch and noticeably more breathable than many pillows I've tried. I've seen some complaints about it not staying cool all night, but honestly, no pillow really does. Casper's claim of "12 hours of cooling" seems like marketing optimism—your body heat will eventually warm up any pillow, no matter how well-designed. That’s just basic thermodynamics. All in all, it's a well-made pillow with excellent cooling performance. If you have a smaller frame, this could be a great choice. Unfortunately, it just didn’t work for my needs.
