Unlike the symmetrical, round pads of the standard species, the "monstrosa" form grows in a distorted, wavy, and sculptural way. Each pad is unique—twisting and clumping into a "crazy" formation that looks like a cluster of tiny, distorted rabbit ears covered in fuzzy white dots.
  
  The parent species is native to Northern and Central Mexico. While the standard version is widespread, this monstrosa form is a horticultural treasure, specifically cultivated for those who love the "oddities" of the plant world.
  
  While this monstrose form focuses most of its energy on its wild pad growth, it can occasionally produce creamy yellow, cup-shaped flowers. These blooms are particularly special because they contrast beautifully with the white, fuzzy dots (glochids).
