Philodendron goeldii , also known as Thaumatophyllum spruceanum , is a tropical plant notable for its unique foliage. Its long, narrow, dark green leaves fan out in a circle around the stem, creating a striking visual effect.

Origin: Native to northern South America, including Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. In its natural habitat, it grows both as a terrestrial shrub and as a hemiepiphyte, anchoring itself to larger trees in dense forests.

Growth: Moderate-growing plant, typically reaching 90-150 cm in height and 60-90 cm in width indoors. It develops an upright habit with leaves that spread out in a crown around the central stem.

Flowers: Flowering is rare in indoor cultivation and not very decorative. The plant is mainly grown for its ornamental foliage.

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. It tolerates low light conditions, but insufficient light can stunt its growth. Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn the leaves.

Watering: Water when the top 2 to 3 centimeters of soil are dry. During the growing season, this generally means watering once or twice a week. Reduce watering in winter.

Substrate: Use a well-draining mix rich in organic matter, such as a tropical potting mix containing peat, perlite, and bark. Poorly drained soil can lead to root rot.

Toxicity: Toxic if ingested to humans and pets, due to the presence of calcium oxalates. It is recommended to keep it out of reach of children and pets.

Easy Read with good case studies!!
Format: Paperback
I had to purchase this for my Advanced Pathophysiology class in my Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program. It is very easy to understand and have pretty good case studies. I like that the CD that accompanies the book goes into some detail in explaining the cases further and the disease processes without giving you the answers to the questions. It stimulates one to think!! Once this class is over I will go back from time to time to review!!

Helpful
Format: Paperback
This is a nice compliment to other classroom instruction materials. I am teaching an advanced pathophysiology course in a nurse practitioner program. This book is very helpful for students to put together the concepts of patho with the clinical setting. Will use these for in-class group assignments. Case-studies are thorough and offer a variety of different disease processes to choose from. It certainly does not offer a case study for every possible disease or clinical scenario, but does cover most major areas and enough variety in my opinion. Should be helpful in reinforcing the clinical significance of some difficult to understand concepts. I would recommend this text to course instructors.

Very helpful book for pathophysiology. The CD not only gives you answers to the case studies but gives you clear details of the clinical Pathophysiology of a particular disease. Definitely recommend it to students going for their Master's degree!
