Alocasia 'Low Rider'

Alocasia 'Low Rider' is a compact elephant-ear Alocasia with glossy green leaves, wavy margins and a sturdy container habit. It carries broad Alocasia foliage in a lower, denser form for indoor pots.

The leaves are heart- to arrow-shaped and held on thick petioles rising from a clumping base. Its smaller scale is the defining feature: the plant still has wide Alocasia leaves, while the overall habit stays close to the pot.

Compact traits of Alocasia 'Low Rider'

  • Growth habit: Low, clumping Alocasia with a broad leaf spread.
  • Leaf shape: Heart- to arrow-shaped leaves with gently wavy edges.
  • Leaf colour: Glossy green blades with a smooth surface.
  • Petioles: Thick stems that hold the leaves above the pot without becoming overly tall.
  • Container behaviour: Broad elephant-ear foliage in a smaller indoor pot format.
  • Background: Dwarf selection connected with the Alocasia 'Portora' group.

Low-growing elephant-ear habit

Alocasia 'Low Rider' grows from a fleshy base and produces leaves in a dense clump. The wavy margins add movement to the foliage, while the glossy green surface keeps the leaf shape clear even when several leaves overlap.

Its broad leaves and fleshy roots need steady warmth, quick drainage and light moisture around the root ball. A chunky substrate keeps the clump firm without holding stale water around the base.

Care notes for Alocasia 'Low Rider'

  • Light: Place in bright indirect light. A steady position keeps the petioles shorter and the leaf spread more balanced.
  • Watering: Water when the upper part of the mix begins to dry, keeping the root ball lightly moist and never saturated.
  • Substrate: Use a chunky aroid mix that drains fast but does not dry into a hard block.
  • Temperature: Keep warm indoors and protect the plant from cold windowsills, cold floors and draughts.
  • Humidity: Moderate to higher humidity reduces crisping along the wavy leaf edges.
  • Pot balance: A slightly wider pot helps the compact clump sit securely as new leaves expand.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during active leaf production. Reduce fertiliser when growth pauses.
  • Rotation: Turn the pot occasionally so the leaves do not all lean toward one light source.

Problems to watch on Alocasia 'Low Rider'

  • Limp leaves: Usually linked to a dry root ball or sudden root stress. Check the mix before assuming it needs more water.
  • Yellowing: Wet, cool substrate can yellow leaves quickly, especially in dense soil.
  • Brown leaf edges: Irregular watering or dry air can mark the wavy margins first.
  • One-sided growth: Strong light from only one direction can pull the petioles sideways.
  • Pests: Check for spider mites, mealybugs and scale around the undersides and petiole bases.

Safety for Alocasia 'Low Rider'

Alocasia 'Low Rider' is toxic if chewed. The plant contains irritating calcium oxalate crystals, so keep it out of reach of pets and children and wash your hands after handling damaged leaves or roots.

Cultivar background for Alocasia 'Low Rider'

Alocasia 'Low Rider' is a cultivated dwarf selection linked with the Alocasia 'Portora' group.

Alocasia 'Low Rider' keeps broad green leaves close to the pot, with wavy margins and sturdy petioles in a compact clump.

Better For Targeting Smaller Areas
Because this is a hard balm beef tallow, I find that it's best to use for targeting smaller areas. Due to being a hard balm, it's just kind of difficult to remove from the jar. Use the back of your fingernail to scrape against the balm and that will help you to lift out a small clump that you can then massage along the skin. Or use a cosmetic scoop or spatula to do so. Does not come with one. Once you get this into your skin, it does do a lot to treat and condition the skin. Moisturizes and relieves dryness on a deep level. Especially good for those who suffer from various dry skin conditions. It does have a very light scent that I like, but because of that, I don't like using this on my face. Besides, I tend to not like balms on my face anyway. You may like it there though because it is quite helpful. I love using this on my dry hands, especially after washing them. Also quite good to use along the fingernails to strengthen them. Will not leave the hands feeling messy with a lot of damp residuals. Made in the U.S.A.

Very light, absorbs easily
When I first opened this container, I was pretty confused. The moisturizer has the consistency of a watery soup or yogurt, but it's also kind of elastic, it made me think of a melted marshmallow. So far I like it a lot though, it absorbs into my face very easily and leaves it feeling extra soft and hydrated, without leaving any residue. It feels pretty lightweight on my skin too. It's a bit weird to apply because of the texture of the cream, I've just been dipping a finger in so it gets coated, then wiping it off my finger and rubbing it on my face.

Pure, simple moisture your skin will thank you for
This Beef Tallow Salve is a deeply nourishing, no-nonsense moisturizer that truly delivers. The blend of grass-fed beef tallow and honey creates a rich, soothing balm that melts into the skin and provides long-lasting hydration. It’s especially helpful on dry, cracked areas like hands, elbows, and heels, and it calms irritated or itchy skin without any harsh ingredients. The texture is thick but absorbs well, leaving skin soft and protected—not greasy. I appreciate the simple, all-natural formula and the fact that it’s made in the USA. A small amount goes a long way, making the jar last longer than expected. If you’re looking for a gentle, effective solution for dry or sensitive skin, this all-purpose salve is a dependable addition to your skincare routine.

Helps even after a few uses!!
I've bought several now, even one for my mom! Love the quality, texture and smell. I swear my face looked better even after first use. I even got a compliment when checking out with Guinness (ID check) - this never happens to me and I buy extra stout weekly. They really didn't think I was in my 30s! I'm less-is-more mentality with skin care, and this stuff fits the bill. It has a lovely texture, feels great going on and forms a protective barrier all day! I've seen redness reduction, and maybe dark spot reduction (hard to tell), but definitely less redness and skin looks more nourished overall. It is the only product I use on my face. No makeup. Usually I use a cetaphil or cerave lotion in winter, but I have replaced that with this (a much more natural product)! ***I also love it is in glass, better for product shelf life and better for the environment!!!!!*** It is Vanilla scent but a natural scent, so it won't be strong like a perfume, it's very subtle which I appreciate. Another perk is US made, not coming from questionable manufacturers. And the price is awesome, comparable stuff is $30+ People complaining about lid :: make sure to get with a big order so your package comes in a box. I ordered once in envelope and the box was squished but the lid thankfully made it. Also yes, if in a warm environment it will be more oily/greasy. Read the ingredients, this is normal. Animal fat, beeswax, olive oil and honey all become more pliable/liquify in warmer temps.
