Brilliant Red Blooms That Light Up Late Fall Through Winter

Yuletide Camellia is famous for one unforgettable look: vivid red, single flowers with bright yellow stamens—like little holiday lanterns tucked into glossy green foliage. Bloom season typically runs from late fall through winter, which makes this shrub feel like a cheat code for color when most landscapes have already clocked out. Each bloom is simple, bold, and high-contrast, so it reads beautifully from the street and still looks stunning up close.

This is the camellia you plant where you’ll see it in cool weather—near the front walk, by the porch, along a driveway curve, or outside a window you pass daily. In a mixed border, it bridges the gap between autumn perennials and winter evergreens, giving your garden that “still alive and blooming” feeling right when you want it most.

Evergreen Structure That Keeps Beds Looking Finished All Year

Even when it’s not flowering, Yuletide earns its space with dense, dark green, evergreen foliage that looks polished in every season. That year-round structure anchors foundation plantings and adds depth to part-sun beds where deciduous shrubs can leave winter gaps. It’s also a gorgeous backdrop for spring bulbs, shade perennials, and seasonal annual color—your other plants look better because Yuletide is standing there, holding the scene together.

Because the foliage is thick and leathery, Yuletide is often considered deer-resistant (not deer-proof). It’s the kind of evergreen that looks upscale without demanding constant attention, and it’s a smart way to create a four-season “framework” while still getting a real bloom season when the garden is quiet.

A Natural Hedge Plant That Flowers Instead Of Just Screening

Yuletide Camellia isn’t just pretty—it’s useful. With its densely branched habit and substantial mature size, it makes a strong evergreen hedge or screen that still feels garden-forward. Plant it in a line, and you get year-round coverage, then a burst of red blooms that turns your hedge into a seasonal event. It’s a softer, more elegant alternative to “all green, no flowers” screening plants.

It also works beautifully as a specimen shrub—one statement plant that does double duty as evergreen structure and winter color. Whether you’re framing an entry, defining a property edge, or building privacy along a patio, Yuletide gives you a purposeful planting that looks intentional (and not just functional).

Simple Care That Rewards You With More Blooms And Better Foliage

Yuletide Camellia performs best in part sun to part shade, especially in locations with gentle morning light and some protection from afternoon sun. Like most camellias, it thrives in well-drained soil—roots want consistent moisture, but they do not want to sit wet. If your soil holds water, improving drainage is the single best “upgrade” you can make for long-term success.

Water well until established, then shift to deep watering during extended dry spells. A 2–3-inch mulch layer helps keep moisture even and reduces temperature swings, supporting healthier roots and better bud development. Keep pruning simple and well-timed (right after bloom), and you’ll have a glossy evergreen that blooms reliably and looks refined year after year.

Clean product
Size: 3 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I only gave it 4 stars because of the smell. Of course it’s sunscreen so it’s going to have a chemical smell but this smell is just too strong for me. Other then that, it’s a great sunscreen. Does take some more rubbing in and be carful to rub it in really good or you’ll have white streaks all over your face. Leaves a bit of a white cast. You don’t need much.

Great quality

Thinksport SPF 50+ Mineral Sunscreen with Zinc is a reliable, high‑protection option that feels lightweight and non‑greasy on the skin. It applies smoothly without leaving too much white cast for everyday use, and I love that it’s mineral‑based with zinc for strong UVA/UVB defense. Great for active days outdoors. Highly recommend for sensitive skin and safe sun coverage!

Brown skin approved!

Does not leave a white cast, feels very light on the skin. Scanned on Yuka and was a 86/100 green zone! It’s so hard to find a sunscreen that isn’t trying to poison you, scanned all the sunscreen at Walmart and were rated a 1/100 through 6/100. Which brought me to Amazon. Thinksport has my vote on goodness and healthiness, would buy again!

My favorite... And I'm picky.
Size: 3 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I've become a little obsessed with sunscreen over the last past 5 years. I have olive skin and developed melasma after my first pregnancy. I learned the hard way that chemical sunscreens don't help if you have melasma - and they actually make the dark spots even worse. Also the active ingredients in chemical sunscreens (like Oxybenzone and Octinoxate) are absorbed by your skin, and may cause allergies, hormonal imbalance and be toxic overtime. After learning that, I started wearing only mineral sunscreen (active ingredient is zinc and/or titanium dioxide). These are not absorbed and works by creating a physical barrier that reflects the sun (some studies suggest that some nanoparticles of zinc may be absorbed by your skin, so to be really, really safe you should look for non-nano particles). After trying a few brands, I realized the sunscreens with only zinc in their formulas worked better than the blends with titanium dioxide, but this is just my personal preference I guess. And the higher the percentage of zinc, the better. Most pure mineral sunscreens out there are 10-ish % zinc, SPF 30, 40 min water resistant - which is ok. Thinksport goes beyond that: It's 20% non-nano zinc, SPF 50+, 80 min water resistant. It really can't get any better than that! The lotion is not extremely thick when compared to other sunscreens I've tried and I find it pretty easy to apply. As every zinc sunscreen, it does leave a little fine white cast, but honestly Thinksport is not bad at all! It smells nice, lightly citrusy - and the smell vanishes soon. And, it's not overpriced. Best I've tried so far.

Works but will Dry Out Your Skin
Size: 6 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I am a swim instructor at an outdoor pool and this stuff DOES work. I can apply it at the beginning of a 5 hour shift and while I have experienced light tanning it has protected against burning completely without reapplication. The white cast is significant though I don't mind it aesthetically, I know its there for protection . It does rub off on things though so consider yourself warned. Major Con: it is incredibly drying, and the soap needed to scrub it off is A LOT. That coupled with chlorine is a lot for my skin . Still on my sunscreen journey.
