Zantedeschia aethiopica White Giant/Hercules (Arum Lily, Calla Lily)

Introducing the Zantedeschia aethiopica White Giant/Hercules, also known as the Giant Arum Lily or Calla Lily. This unique variety is often confused with Zantedeschia Hercules, but our White Giant has distinct white spots on its leaves and is the largest of its kind. It is not widely available in the UK, making it a rare and special addition to any garden.

Native to South Africa, this perennial can reach a staggering height of 6ft in a single season when given the right conditions - plenty of feed, warmth, and moisture. Our nursery in Somerset, South West United Kingdom, has propagated these plants to ensure their quality and availability.

While hardy, this Zantedeschia may experience frost damage to its leaves during winter. Simply trim back the foliage after the last frosts and new shoots will emerge from the ground. For optimal growth and flowering, plant in a sheltered spot with loamy soil and protect during cold periods.

  • Height: Easily maintained to 1.5m, Flowering Stems up to 2m
  • Spread: Easily maintained to 1m
  • Foliage Colour: Green with white spots, large leaves
  • Flower Colour: White buds and white funnel shaped flowers
  • Soil Type: Moist, boggy, loam, chalk, thrives in moist conditions
  • Position: Semi Shade - Shade
  • Hardiness: Reasonably Hardy once established, H4 (-5 to -10), cold conditions may damage leaves but the plant will re shoot from the base
  • Type: Evergreen

Supplied in either a 9cm pot or 2 Litre pot, please select from the drop down menu when ordering.

The hardy forms of Zantedeschia are varieties that derive from the species Zantedeschia  aethiopica and Zantedeschia pentlandii, these are mainly white flowered varieties sometimes having coloured throats like Zantedeschia aethiopica Kiwi BlushZantedeschia pentlandii is striking in having bright yellow flowers.

All the Zantedeschia we grow here are the hardy forms. To ensure these plants thrive in your garden it is best to plant them in moist soil in semi-shade, bright sun can slow their growth and scorch the leaves. Also in mild winters these perennials can be evergreen and put on growth through winter, in this scenario a sharp frost will kill these fresh shoots of the top growth but will not harm the plant, it will just re-shoot from the root in spring. A good mulch over winter greatly helps the plant too by insulating the shoots just below the soil from frost and ensuring a good strong root base from which masses of shoots will appear in the spring.

These plants can also be grown in containers and for this they will respond best to a loam based compost, they don`t want to be planted too deep and respond well to regular feeding. When grown in pots the plants should be protected over winter as the root is above the ground (in the pot) and can be damaged by frost. The containers should be watered regularly and the compost should be kept moist at all times. These plants grow well in the UK, we have them here on our nursery in the South West of England but with a bit of protection (fleece in extreme conditions, mulch or moving containers into a greenhouse) they can be grown all over the UK.

Plenty of power. Easy to use.
Size: 8" Edger New
I was amazed at the power of this edger. Due to health issues we couldn’t give our lawn adequate attention. It hadn’t been edged in over a year. This edger cut thru the heavy overgrown grass. Maintaining the edging now is a breeze. It uses the same 80 volt battery as my blower👍. The only negative is there is no edge guide, but once I got used to it, it’s not really needed.

Uses same battery as the rest of my equipment
Size: 8" Edger New
Since I already have and like the Greenworks mower, string trimmer and blower it only made sense to get the edger. Even better that I didn’t need to buy more batteries. I tried another name brand electric edger and returned it for not holding a charge. This one works great! There’s charge left in the battery after everything has been edged. I was concerned how easy it would be to control but fell in love with it first time I used it. To use just pop the battery in, flip the thumb lever, squeeze and edge. Not as noisy as gas powered equipment and no cords to pull. Feels sturdy in my hands and a good weight that’s enough to not pop up if it hits something but not too much to be heavy to carry back to the shed.

First use was great!
I've used it just the one time today. I had previously "edged" with a string weedwhacker, so while the grass was cut back some, there wasn't a trench dug out. I did a gentle push and pull, taking on about 18" at a time to get a new trench dug next to the sidewalk edge. It did a great job! The entire unit was much heavier and sturdy looking than I was afraid it would be for the price, so pleasantly surprised. Assembly wasn't complicated, but it did take two of us to hold it steady because getting the screws to seat in the square hole and not have the cord in the way was a bit tricky. I'm a 70+ lady, not large and not athletic, but I was able to handle this edger with ease. Now, to see how long it lasts!
