A hemiepiphytic climber from the Chocó rainforests of Colombia, closely related to P. luxurians and sharing its velvety, broadly heart-shaped leaf form but distinguished by its defining characteristic — new leaves emerge in a vivid deep crimson to ruby red before gradually transitioning through warm tones to the deep, velvety dark green of maturity, with the abaxial underside retaining a rich burgundy-red throughout the leaf's lifespan. The bright red cataphylls that accompany each new unfurling add a further flash of color, making the plant visually active at every growth cycle.

Light: Bright indirect light supports the most vivid red emergent coloration and most vigorous growth; direct sun scorches the delicate velvet surface. Insufficient light causes the red tones to diminish.

Soil: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; excellent drainage and root aeration essential. Never waterlogged.

Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-80°F; high humidity of 60-80% is essential for maintaining the velvet texture and the most vivid color contrast between upper and lower leaf surfaces.

Watering: Allow the top 1-2" of medium to dry between waterings; water thoroughly and drain completely. Sensitive to overwatering — err on the dry side rather than the wet.

Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks during active growth; supplement with calcium and magnesium for best leaf quality. Reduce in winter.
