Summary

A big, bold evergreen built for serious privacy and standout winter color.

Spring Grove® Western Arborvitae from Proven Winners® ColorChoice® is prized for its dense, pyramidal habit and rich green foliage that holds strong through winter. It’s an excellent choice when you want a fast-growing screen that looks full and intentional—without constant shearing.

Use it as a living privacy fence along property lines, a windbreak for open sites, or a commanding evergreen backdrop behind mixed borders. Its broad, substantial frame is best suited to larger landscapes where it can mature into its natural shape and provide lasting structure year-round.

Care

Spring Grove® Western Arborvitae Care

Plant in full sun to partial shade. For the densest growth and strongest structure, provide at least 6 hours of direct sunlight.

Prefers well-drained soil but adapts to many garden soils. Avoid consistently soggy sites.

Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots. Once established, water during extended dry periods for best growth and foliage quality.

If fertilization is desired, apply slow release fertilizer in early spring.

Pruning is seldom needed. If shaping is required, trim lightly in late spring and avoid cutting back into thick, older wood.

Size

What Size is the Spring Grove® Western Arborvitae for Sale Online?

At maturity, this evergreen tree typically reaches 25–30 feet tall and 12–15 feet wide, forming a dense, pyramidal canopy ideal for large-scale screening.

Additional Information

What is the botanical name of Spring Grove® Western Arborvitae?

The botanical name is Thuja plicata ‘Grovepli’.

How far apart should I plant it for a privacy screen?

For a substantial screen with room for healthy mature development, space plants about 12–15 feet apart. If you want a tighter screen sooner, you can plant closer, but expect a fuller hedge effect and less airflow as plants mature.

Is it deer resistant?

It is considered deer resistant in many landscapes, though no plant is completely immune to browsing. In areas with heavy deer pressure, protection may still be helpful. Explore more options in our Deer-Resistant Shrubs and Evergreens collection.

A great collection, but fails to cast Black Panther as a superhero
There are some great things about this collection of stories: women are well represented in lead roles; backstories for Miles Morales, Steve Rogers, Carol Danvers, and Tony Stark; stories that incorporate Black men as role models; and the important role technology plays in many of the stories. Now for our big disappointment. The Black Panther story is not about T'Challa becoming Black Panther, but more about Spider Man fighting Kraven, and once disarmed, Black Panther making him, "pay for the crimes [he has] committed against the animal kingdom," by delivering "the final blow." This did not sound like superhero/ role model behavior to us. I also found it strange that all the background characters in this story were white. That is not the New York city I know. The stories included are: - Miles Morales as the black spider man - Gamora vs. Nebula - Steve Rogers becoming Captain America - Spider-Man finding his place among heroes - Black Widow and Hawkeye - Carol Danvers becoming Captain Marvel - Rocket, Groot and technology - Captain America vs. M.O.D.O.K. - Tony Stark becoming Captain America - Spider-Man and Black Panther vs Kraven - Drax, girlfriend Kaz, and Star-Lord - Captain America and Iron Man seek help of Captain Marvel Overall, my son enjoys reading these stories and looking at the pictures. Though we will need to continue our search for a good Black Panther story, we are glad we bought this collection of stories, with the Miles Morales becoming Spider-Man story my son's new favorite.

Definitely for a Baby
This little Pooh is as described and definitely for a baby. I had hoped to gift it to an adult but upon receipt, I realized while it is a lovely gift for a baby, it would not relate well for an adult. The ears crunch and there is a sweet rattle inside. It’s very soft and a baby would find it comforting.
