Description:
Chlorophytum comosum 'Ocean', commonly known as Variegated Spider Plant 'Ocean', is a compact and highly decorative cultivar of the classic spider plant, prized for its dense rosette form and striking foliage. Unlike the more common ‘Vittatum’ or ‘Variegatum’ varieties, 'Ocean' features shorter, broader leaves with creamy-white edges and a vibrant green centre, creating a lush, rippling effect that resembles ocean waves. This hardy, low-maintenance plant is ideal for hanging baskets, desktop pots, or grouped indoor arrangements. In Melbourne, it thrives indoors with bright, indirect light, though it can tolerate part shade. It prefers free-draining soil and benefits from regular watering, allowing the top layer to dry out slightly between drinks. Under ideal conditions, it produces small white flowers and offsets (“pups”) on long trailing stems, which can be left in place for a cascading effect or easily propagated. Fast-growing and highly adaptable, ‘Ocean’ is especially suited to those seeking a clean, compact plant with year-round appeal.
