Up for sale is one pack of 50 Violet Butterfly Bush (Buddleia Davidii) seeds. For zones 5-10 these classic butterfly bush create a 5-10 foot shrubs that produces violet flowers all summer and into fall.

These seeds require light to germinate and they are best started in pots. Place approximately 10 seeds in at least an 6" pot and dusty very lightly with sand or vermiculite. You do not want to bury your seeds. Keep soil moist and seeds may require up to 30 days at 70 degrees to germinate. Butterfly Bush are very hardy but we find that they are very sensitive to yard weed control chemicals so plant at least 3 feet away from grass areas where you might apply any weed preventative. We generally transplant winter started shrubs into the ground the following fall.

Shrub and vine seeds usually have a lower germination rate of around 50%.  Butterfly Bush does not require cold treatment to germinate, but a short cold treatment will enhance your germination rate.  If you want to cold treat your seeds add your packet and 2 tbs of fine sand and 1 tsp of water into a baggie or container.  Put in your fridge (not your freezer) for at least 30 days and no more than 60 days.  After cold treatment sow using the directions above.
