A Day Living Among Heirlooms

Heirloom chrysanthemums are the kind of bloom that stops you mid-step — their layers unfurling like something out of a Japanese woodblock print, their colors deepening as the season turns. They have been grown, passed down, and tenderly kept alive by gardeners who understood that some things are too beautiful to let disappear. And now, for one unhurried day at Bear Creek Farm, you'll learn how to grow them yourself.

You'll arrive to beauty — remarkable plants, a warm and welcoming space — and spend the day falling a little in love with blooms you'll want to grow forever. Each technique unfolds naturally, guided by our deep love of these flowers and our joy in sharing them. You'll take cuttings directly from our own plants and pot them up yourself — that particular quiet thrill of beginning something that will be yours to tend and watch bloom. And at the end of it all, we'll sit down together for a thoughtfully prepared Asian-inspired lunch, a nod to the chrysanthemum's deep cultural roots — a beautiful way to close a beautiful day.

By the end of the afternoon, what once seemed mysterious will feel entirely natural. Propagation. Pinching. The art of coaxing one extraordinary bloom from a single stem. You'll carry home the plants, the knowledge, and that particular glow of a day well spent.

Workshop Date: Saturday, November 7, 10 am - 2:30 pm

  • Traditional growing techniques — pinching, lateral removal, disbudding — taught gently, step by step

  • A beautiful Asian-inspired lunch to close the day, eaten together in the spirit of everything we've shared

Not flimsy
Size: 300 Count (Pack of 1,8.375 Inch), Size: 300 Count (Pack of 1,8.375 Inch)
These paper plates are sturdy and hold food well without bending or leaking. I originally thought they were going to be a little bigger than they are, but I still ended up keeping them and using them regularly. They work great for snacks, lighter meals, and everyday use. The quality is good, they’re easy to store, and the large pack is very convenient.
