Anthurium regale x luxurians

Anthurium regale x luxurians is a cultivated hybrid with large velvet leaves, strong veins and texture that becomes clearer with age. The regale parent shows in the longer leaves and pale veins, while luxurians adds thicker texture.

In a pot, this cultivated cross forms a compact to medium crown. New leaves often open soft and fairly smooth, then harden into darker, heavier blades with clearer texture.

Leaf texture and hybrid form

  • Large heart-shaped to elongated heart-shaped leaves
  • Velvet to satin-matte surface
  • Strong venation
  • Raised or lightly bullate texture with maturity
  • Compact to medium crown
  • Older leaves feel thicker and firmer
  • Some plants may show firmer, slightly ribbed petioles from the luxurians side

Anthurium regale x luxurians parentage

Anthurium regale is from northeastern Peru and is known for large velvet leaves with pale veins. Anthurium luxurians is Colombian and is known for thick, textured, bullate foliage.

Older leaves usually become longer, heavier and more textured once the roots are established. Leaves can vary in width, vein contrast, texture and petiole strength.

Mature plants may flower with a typical Anthurium spathe and spadix. In a pot, it develops larger leaves with raised texture and pale veins.

Anthurium regale x luxurians care

  • Light: Place in bright filtered light. Direct midday sun can leave pale or dry marks on soft textured leaves.
  • Watering: Water once the upper layer begins to dry. Keep the mix lightly moist, but make sure excess water drains freely.
  • Substrate: A bark-based mix with coco chips and pumice keeps moisture around the roots while staying open and airy.
  • Pot choice: Use a pot with strong drainage and enough weight for the crown. A pot close to the root-ball size keeps moisture easier to control.
  • Temperature: This hybrid grows best in a warm, stable indoor position, especially while new leaves are expanding.
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity helps new leaves open more evenly.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth with a diluted complete fertiliser. Flush the pot with water now and then if fertiliser residue builds up.
  • Repotting: Move up when roots fill the pot or when the mix has softened and lost open spaces.
  • Handling: Fresh leaves bruise and mark easily. Give them space until they harden.
  • Placement: Keep the crown open so new blades have room to expand cleanly.

Common problems

  • Brown leaf edges: Dry air, uneven watering, salt buildup or cold roots can cause brown edges.
  • Soft yellow leaves: Soft yellow leaves often point to roots sitting too wet.
  • Marked new growth: Pests, dry sheath tissue, low humidity or physical contact can mark a new leaf while it expands.
  • Pale stretched growth: Move the plant gradually into brighter filtered light.
  • Flat young leaves: Texture often becomes stronger after the leaf hardens and the plant matures.
  • Loose crown: The plant may need more time to root firmly into the pot.

How the texture develops

Young plants often start with smoother, simpler leaves. Once the roots settle, later leaves usually show stronger texture and clearer veins.

Household safety

Keep Anthurium regale x luxurians away from pets and children. Its tissues contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause mouth and throat irritation if plant material is eaten. Wash hands after handling damaged leaves or roots.

Parent names

Anthurium refers to the spadix. Regale means royal or regal, while luxurians refers to luxuriant growth. The hybrid name joins the two parent species.

Great value speakers for a beginner audiophile
Size: 4” Woofer
Fantastic sound quality to my ears, got these used “mint” for 179 and that was a steal, they were never even opened. They feel solid and well made, they’re heavy for the size which makes them feel of a higher quality. Very happy with my purchase

compact surrounds that blend well with the right setup
Size: 4” Woofer
I picked up the Klipsch R‑40M as part of a full 5.1 system built around the R‑50M fronts and the R‑50C center. My original plan was to use another pair of R‑50M speakers in the back, but they simply didn’t fit in the rear cabinet space I have. The R‑40M ended up being the only model that fit comfortably, so they became my surround channels. In terms of build quality, they feel solid and consistent with the rest of the Reference Next‑Gen line. The copper woofers and updated horn design give them the same visual identity as the larger models, which helps the whole system look cohesive. They’re compact enough to place in tighter spaces without compromising too much on performance. Sonically, the R‑40M does a respectable job as a surround speaker. Effects are clear, directional cues are easy to follow, and they integrate smoothly with the more powerful R‑50M fronts. That said, they are noticeably less powerful than the R‑50M, so you need to spend a little time balancing your levels. Once I bumped their channel trim a bit and adjusted the distance settings, the rear soundstage locked in nicely and felt much more even. They won’t deliver the same fullness or dynamic punch as the larger models, but for rear channels that’s usually not a deal breaker. What matters is clarity and consistency, and the R‑40M handles both well. Movies with active surround mixes feel immersive, and ambient effects wrap around the room without calling attention to the speakers themselves. If you’re building a system where space is limited in the back, the R‑40M is a practical and capable choice. Just be prepared to fine tune your calibration so they match the output of the bigger speakers up front. Once dialed in, they round out a 5.1 setup very effectively.
