Echeveria pulidonis

Echeveria pulidonis is a Mexican species with green to blue-green rosettes and a fine red line along the leaf margins. The leaves are fleshy, obovate to oblong and held in a low rosette that stays compact when the plant receives enough light.

The red edge gives each leaf a clear border, while mature plants can produce yellow flowers on slender stems above the rosette.

Red-edged rosette traits

  • Rosette form: Forms low, almost stemless rosettes that can offset slowly with age.
  • Leaf detail: Green to blue-green leaves carry a conspicuous red margin and a small pointed tip.
  • Flower colour: Produces yellow flowers, a useful identifying feature for this species.
  • Native range: Recorded from Hidalgo, Veracruz and Puebla in Mexico.
  • Growth pace: Develops slowly as a low rosette that can offset with age.

Dry-shrubland background in Mexico

Echeveria pulidonis is an accepted species in the Crassulaceae family. Its native range covers parts of Hidalgo, Veracruz and Puebla in Mexico, where it is recorded from desert or dry shrubland biome conditions. Indoors it needs bright exposure, fast drainage and dry intervals around the roots.

The type collection comes from Beristain, Puebla, and the species epithet refers to the collector Pulido. The published species description highlights nearly stemless rosettes with obovate-oblong green leaves, red margins and yellow flowers.

Care for Echeveria pulidonis

  • Light: Place in very bright light with some gentle direct sun. Good light helps keep the rosette low and evenly spaced.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly, then wait until the full substrate volume has dried. The succulent leaves hold reserves between waterings.
  • Substrate: Use a mineral-rich succulent mix that drains quickly and leaves little moisture sitting around the roots.
  • Pot size: Keep in a snug pot with drainage holes. Oversized pots stay wet too long for a slow, low rosette.
  • Temperature: Keep above 10 °C. During winter, maintain brighter light and water only enough to prevent severe shrivelling.
  • Humidity: Average indoor humidity is fine when airflow is good and water is kept away from a constantly wet crown.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly in spring or early summer. A dilute succulent fertiliser is enough for this slow species.
  • Propagation: Offsets can be removed once rooted; leaf propagation is possible but slow, with offset division usually the easier route.

Diagnosis notes for Echeveria pulidonis

  • Raised centre: Stretching upward usually signals weak light. Move the plant gradually closer to a brighter exposure.
  • Yellowing, soft leaves: Check the roots and substrate moisture. Wet soil around a succulent rosette often leads to rot.
  • Dry leaf tips: A few dry older leaves are normal. Widespread wrinkling means the plant has used too much stored water.
  • Uneven margin colour: The red edge can vary with leaf age and growing conditions. Firm new growth is the better health signal.
  • Pests in the crown: Mealybugs can settle between tight leaves. Inspect the centre and leaf bases with good light.

Safety in the home

Echeveria pulidonis is a soft-leaved succulent with no spines or irritating latex. Keep it out of reach of pets that chew plants, and remove dropped leaves before they are picked up by children or animals.

Name origin and publication

Echeveria pulidonis E.Walther was published in Walther’s Echeveria in 1972. The genus Echeveria honours Atanasio Echeverría y Godoy, and the species epithet refers to the collector Pulido.

Echeveria pulidonis forms a green rosette with fine red edges and yellow flowers on mature plants.

great ball!
Size: Medium (2.5"), Style: Fetch Pack 2
My pitbull LOVES these. She is a power chewer and tough on balls and toys and tends to go through them insanely quick. She is still on her first ball out of this pack and its been at least two months. It is a little small for her mouth but she doesn’t seem to mind, as it has quickly become one of her favorites. Not a loud ball and it doesn’t usually make that wet chewy noise when shes going to town on it which is huge for me😂😂 Safe for my pittie so i’d imagine a smaller dog would be just fine.

Border Collie Approved: Easy to Clean, Durable, and Great Bounce
Size: Medium (2.5"), Style: Fetch Pack 2
These are the best balls out there for dogs. These fit great in the chuck-it ball launcher, which we need to wear out my border collie. They fit her mouth properly and, most importantly, do not absorb all the spit or water after a good rain. They are quick to clean off and have good weight so you can let them fly! Furthermore, they bounce well, which is perfect for my dog that likes to catch them on a bounce. The ball is a strong rubber, so should not be easy to chew up. I've used these for years, and the only time I've had to replace them is when one gets lost in the hay field. I highly suggest these as replacements for the common tennis balls.

Treats and plenty of ball throwing with these doggie toy
Size: Medium (2.5"), Style: Fetch Pack 1
I have actually purchased these twice already. I love the one that glows in the dark but it still got lost in my yard lol. My dog is a big breed half pitt/Labrador so she did chew through one of them already. I play ball with her every single day but I DO have to take them away from her because she will destroy them. They are great to add in treats as well, that was one of the my favorite things about them as well. They do last just if you have an over zealous chewer do not let them keep them for long periods of time. They are a good value for the price. Buy them your dog will love it!

My Female GSD loves
Size: Medium (2.5"), Style: Fetch Pack 1, Size: Medium (2.5"), Style: Fetch Pack 1
Shasta is my smallest. Six in December (2025) along with her brother. She’s 100 lbs and outside, completely ball driven see last picture. Don’t let the size (2.5”) of these Chuck-It balls deter you. If your larger Breed dog has any orthopedic issues, has already torn their ACL etc, one has arthritis but wants to play. This size is perfect! Shazzy was born with several ortho issues. I don’t throw balls distance but right to her. This size and lighter weight assure even when Shazzy is spazzy w excitement, she’ll catch the ball mid air. The green balls are softer, and glow in the dark. In summer we can play well past dusk and I can see them! Her personality shows in the pictures. Playing ball is part of her. These balls are just perfect for her situation. Somehow they disappear, she loves making baskets, puts them in my tractor bucket, or my gardening bucket..then get put in burn pile, trash etc. I keep replacing them because she’d look day and night if we actually ran out!! 🙏✝️👍🏼👍🏼
