Sansevieria (Snake Plant) – Plant Description

Sansevieria, commonly called Snake Plant, Mother-in-law’s Tongue, or Viper’s Bowstring Hemp, is one of the most popular and low-maintenance indoor plants worldwide. Belonging to the Asparagaceae family, this hardy perennial is known for its upright sword-like leaves with striking green, yellow, or variegated patterns.

Sansevieria is also celebrated as a natural air purifier (recognized by NASA for removing toxins like formaldehyde and benzene) and is considered a good luck plant in many cultures. Its modern aesthetic makes it perfect for homes, offices, and balcony gardens.

🌱 Growing Tips for Sansevieria

  • Thrives in low to bright indirect sunlight, making it suitable for indoor décor.

  • Tolerant of neglect – can survive with minimal watering.

  • Avoid overwatering, as this is the most common reason for plant failure.

  • Wipe leaves occasionally to remove dust and keep them glossy.

🌡️ Temperature Requirement

  • Ideal temperature range: 15°C – 30°C.

  • Snake Plant tolerates both warm and slightly cool conditions.

  • Protect from frost and extreme cold below 10°C.

💧 Water Requirement

  • Water sparingly – once every 2–3 weeks in summer and even less in winter.

  • Always allow soil to dry between waterings.

  • Overwatering causes root rot, so a “less is more” approach works best.

🪴 Soil Preparation

  • Requires well-draining, sandy soil mix.

  • Ideal mix:

    • 50% garden soil

    • 30% coarse sand/perlite

    • 20% organic compost or cocopeat

  • A cactus/succulent mix works perfectly for Sansevieria.

🌸 Propagation

Sansevieria is one of the easiest plants to propagate:

  1. Leaf Cuttings – Cut a healthy leaf into 2–3 inch sections, let callus for a day, then plant in moist sandy soil.

  2. Division – Mature plants with multiple rhizomes can be separated and replanted.

  3. Offsets/Pups – Snake Plants naturally produce new shoots (“pups”) that can be separated and grown in new pots.

Durable chew toy.
Color: Blue
My dog loves these. She chews on them a lot. She seems to like the different shapes. She is part Pit and an aggressive chewer. These chew toys last a long time. And I love the three pack so if we lose one, we always have a spare.

Decent durability for the price
Color: Blue
Bought a bunch of these for a dog shelter and have to say - decent for the price of you have aggressive chewers. All of the toys are still going 6+ months later, even with the strongest jawed pitty mix. Does get torn up at the ends but can easily be sanded down for a longer lasting toy, unlike some other hard toys with material not meant for sanding. The antler and ring seem to be favorites. The antler even has a divot so you can put soft treats in it or peanut butter and freeze it for a more interactive experience. Some came with a strong beef/liver smell but not overwhelming or off-putting. They are hefty without being too heavy, less likely to damage floors. Overall a good purchase

For aggressive chewers
Color: Blue
My pup is an aggressive chewer and these keep him occupied. He keeps coming back for them. Go to replaced old chew toys. Only issue is he leaves his toys everywhere and if you step on them. They are quite sharp
