Epipremnum Cebu Blue is a striking and unusual vining plant prized for its shimmering blue-green foliage and unique leaf shape that transforms as the plant matures. This rare member of the pothos family is a fast grower that adapts beautifully to different light levels, developing long, elegant vines with increasing fenestration over time.

Native to the dense tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia and the Philippines, it climbs trees in search of light and develops deeply lobed leaves as it matures. Indoors, it behaves similarly — climbing, trailing, or sprawling depending on how you choose to grow it.

Our Cebu Blue Pothos comes in a W12cm nursery pot and stands approx. H20cm. It’s ideal for trailing from a shelf, hanging basket, or climbing a moss pole to encourage larger, more dramatic foliage.

Native habitat and growth pattern
In the wild, Cebu Blue grows as a climbing vine, reaching impressive heights. Its juvenile leaves are small and heart-shaped, but with age and brighter light, they evolve into palm-shaped leaves with deep splits. A true shapeshifter.

Styling tips

  • Let it trail freely from a high shelf or cabinet

  • Grow it up a moss pole to encourage mature leaves

  • Pair with neutral or terracotta pots to enhance the silvery blue tones

  • Ideal for modern or rainforest-inspired interiors

Epipremnum Cebu Blue care guide

Light requirements:
Tolerates a wide range of conditions, from shade to bright indirect light. Brighter light will encourage fenestration and more intense leaf colour.

Watering:
Water when the top two inches of soil are dry. Always allow excess water to drain and never let it sit in standing water.

Feeding:
Feed monthly during the growing season (spring and summer). Try our Original Vegan Plant Food, a gentle organic fertiliser made with seaweed and natural nutrients.

Humidity:
Enjoys normal household humidity but appreciates occasional misting.

Pet safety:
This plant is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested, so keep it out of reach of pets.

Propagation:
Easily propagated via stem cuttings. Simply root in water or directly into soil to grow new plants.

Why choose this plant?

  • Rare and in-demand among plant collectors

  • Silvery blue foliage with a unique trailing habit

  • Easy to grow, even for beginners

  • Adapts to many spaces and styles

  • A brilliant gift or statement shelf plant

FAQs

Why is it called “Cebu Blue”?
It’s named after Cebu Island in the Philippines, where it grows natively. The “blue” refers to the plant’s silvery-blue leaf tone.

Will it develop holes like a Monstera?
Yes — with maturity and the right support (like a moss pole), the leaves can develop fenestrations.

Can it grow in low light?
Yes, but leaf colour may be less intense and growth slower. For best results, keep in bright, indirect light.

Is it safe for pets?
No — like many aroids, it’s toxic if ingested.

Great but had a problem
It’s great except you have to finagle the darn thing for it to charge. Sometimes I have to use something to get it to lean just right so it charges. Otherwise it’s spectacular and easy to use! Love the foil cutter tbh, that works like a gem!

Nice tool, but with a 4 year life span.
I bought this on Nov. 2020, after hand surgery left me temporarily unable to do simple yet necessary tasks- like opening a wine bottle. 🤪 It's compact, nicely designed, and reliable. I kept it plugged in all the time with no issues. The only negative so far is the blue light which stays on whenever the unit is in the base, fully charged or not. (Not a fan of the many small yet bright lights from all appliances! Placing a Talking Yoda figurine in front of it blocked enough of the light to satisfy me). I found it easy to use and appreciated the foil cutter. Worked well on all types of corks. Flash forward to spring 2024... Despite the constant charging, the corkscrew dies at maybe a half inch into the cork. Just slows down and dies. Having read earlier reviews, I may try to crack it open and replace the battery. But ultimately, having regained my hand strength back, I'm more likely to go back to an old fashioned, reliable, hand operated corkscrew and celebrate the loss of weird lights and needed electricity. Conclusion: unless you are recovering from hand surgery, just get a good quality non- electric corkscrew and use it for 75 years (optimistically). Best deal ever. And you can take it camping too.
