Description & Care:

Marana Red Prayer plant is an evergreen, rhizomatous plant that has somewhat rounded/oval dark green leaves with red veins.  The leaves close upward at night in a manner resembling praying hands, hence the common name of the prayer plant.  It can be sensitive to the minerals in hard tap water and cause browning, so filtered water is recommended. If filtered water is not an option, you can try bottom watering or leave tap water out for a few days before watering and avoid getting it on the foliage. You can prune as needed to remove brown or dead leaves and control growth.  This plant is pet friendly!

Light: Bright to medium indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight 

Water: Keep the soil moist, but avoid overwatering by allowing the top inch or two of soil to dry between waterings.  

Temperature: 65-80F

Humidity: High to moderate

Feeding: Fertilize about every two weeks during active growth which typically occurs during the spring and summer months

Propagation:  It can be propagated through division/rhizomes or stem cuttings below the node

Common Pests: Look out for spider mites (most common), mealy bugs and thrips
