A Pink Princess Philodendron in Canada is one of the most in-demand houseplants. Their hot pink variegation is stunning and it's no wonder this plant is taking the internet by storm.

Pink Princess are not hard to grow, however there are several very important things that you need to know in order to grow this plant to show and maintain its entire beauty.

Pink Princess Philodendron Care Information

The best part about growing a Philodendron Pink Princess is seeing how variegated each new leaf is! Variegation means that a plant has areas of different color, most notably on the leaves. The Philodendron Pink Princess has variegated areas of pink that can takeover an entire leaf.

In other plants variegation is commonly white or yellow. All variegations start out as a mutation in the plants genes. These variegated areas will lack chlorophyll, which is how plants create their energy, so they tend to grow slower than non-variegated houseplants.

Sun requirements for a Philodendron Pink Princess

A Pink Princess enjoys a few hours of direct sun in the morning or afternoon, provided by East or West windows. It is best to avoid direct mid-day sun when the sun is at its strongest.

These plants are on the jungle floor, so they only pick up hints of light throughout the day, not direct.

Water requirements for a Philodendron Pink Princess

Like most tropical houseplants, Philodendrons like to be in soil that drains easy, and that can dry fully from time-to-time. Let the top inch of soil dry out between watering.

You should never allow your plant to sit in water. Water your plant and let it drain into the bottom of its pot, on a saucer, or in your sink. Leaving your plant to sit in water will increase your risk of root rot.

Humidity and Temperature

Philodendrons like the Pink Princess prefer higher humidity levels. Levels around 50% humidity are the best, but average household humidity of 40% is perfectly fine. Bathrooms with bright windows are absolutely great for a philodendrons and other tropical plants.

When placing your plants around your house be sure to look out for drafts and breezes. Open windows letting in cool air may shock your plant, and leaving them next to a heating vent is not good for them.

For temperaturs, tropical plants grow best in temperatures of 16C to 29C for optimal growth. Temporary dips or rises in temperature are fine.

Climbing Abilities

Philodendrons Pink Princesses are a vining plant, so a trellis, post, or moss pole is great to climb on. As your plant grows, gently tie the vine to the support structure. Your plant will appreciate the support and will grow even faster.

Check out our locally made moss poles. They can be custom lengths and you are supporting a Waterloo plant lover who makes amazing moss poles.

You may also continually cut your plant. It will force out new growth and become bushier and fuller.

How to Get More Pink Leaves and More Variegation!

Everyone wants to have all pink leaves. That's why we love this plant so much! But remember that pink leaves have no chlorophyll in them, and that's what it needs to grow, so we have to find a balance.

You will want an even amount of pink and green leaves. If your Pink Princess Philodendron starts to keep too many green leaves, it's possible your plant will revert to all green over time.

If you grow only pink leaves, or leaves that are more than half pink, the Pink Princess Philodendron will decline in health as the variegated portions block your plant from converting sun into energy.

If your plant has started to grow all green leaves, or all pink leaves, you’ll need to prune it. Pruning off the all-pink leaves will help grow leaves that have a more balanced variegation.

Of course, if you do get all pink leaves, it is okay to enjoy it for a while. But don’t leave them on for too long or your plants health will start to decline.

What are people saying about the Philodendron Pink Princess?

Jessica L. says

The hot pink variegation is stunning, and nurseries have trouble keeping them in stock. The Philodendron Pink Princess is easy to grow as well, which is a bonus!

Brandon Y. says

With its dark green leaves and bright pink variegation, this indoor plant has the right to be called a “princess.”

Melissa O. says

The short answer is because it's gorgeous, and rare. Pink variegation in philodendrons doesn't usually happen on its own, and this plant is covered in pink!.

Lauren D. says

The contrast of the deep green and bright pink colours within the same leaf, makes the Philodendron Pink Princess truly a royal plant to have in your home.

Kiran S. says

Deep green heart-shaped leaves with bubblegum pink variegation, the pink princess is truly unique in the plant world.

Sandra B. says

The fact that I can easily care for it. It's a philodendron so it's pretty simple not to mess up. The pink is just outrageous. It looks great on my table.

Protection with days of white residue
Style: SPF 50 Roll On, Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Mineral sunscreens have yet to master blending in and this is no different. If you're thinking of hitting the beach with your sexy bum protected it'd better be a ghost beach because you'll look like you've been dipped in white paint. Oh, and it doesn't wash off, so be prepared to look like Casper for days to come. It rolls on fine if you shake it well first and it does protect.

This has become my go to daily sunscreen
Size: 1.7 Ounce (Pack of 1)
After first purchasing a year ago, this has become my daily go-to facial sunscreen while others just sit taking up space in my medicine cabinet. I have sensitive skin and severe reactions to chemical sunscreen and have been searching for the perfect mineral sunscreen for several years after starting tretinoin made my reaction to chemical sunscreen intolerable. I only recently figured out I am also highly sensitive to chemical boosters found in a lot of mineral sunscreens. Especially Butyloctyl salicylate. That one is a no-go for me and until I learned about chemical boosters found in a lot of "100 % mineral" sunscreens, could not figure out why some of my sunscreens made my face flush red and feel like it was on fire when I was in the sun. Lab Muffin is my hero. My skin is dry, mature, and sensitive with some lines/wrinkes, large pores, and rosacea. At first I thought this Sun Bum tinted mineral would be too drying as it has a very light texture vs being creamy. But it is not and the texture makes for a light but effective formula. PROS: - Mineral formula with no chemical boosters. - Does not settle in pores and wrinkles. After applying it settles slightly in lines, but a quick blend with a blending brush and it is good for the day. - Blends easily into hairline and brows. - Does not sting my eyes when I sweat and seems relatively sweat proof. -Does not transfer tint to clothes once it dries down. Even when I wipe away sweat.... nothing seems to come off. It is the only tinted mineral I have tried with little to no tint transfer. - Blends easily with a very soft silky texture that allows you to blend without any tugging on the skin like a lot of mineral formulas. - Matte finish but with a subtle glow. - Tint provides light coverage to even out skin, though does not cover everything. As someone who rarely wears makeup I appreciate the subtle coverage which does not look overdone but helps my skin look better. - Does not emphasize occasional tretinoin dry patches. Some of my other sunscreens (even tinted) seem to make dry patches look worse. This formula covers them without emphasizing (or irritating) them. - Does not feel heavy on my skin. I can't stand feeling sunscreen on my face (or anything which is the main reason I do not wear much makeup) and this formula is so light once it is on I forget it is there. -Light coverage lasts all day if I don't sweat. Needs some reapplication when sweating. -Does seem to provide SPF 30 coverage. With reports about sunscreens underperforming lately, this one does appear to work. I can burn in less than 15-20 minutes in full sun, but no problems with this sunscreen when reapplied after sweating or long sun exposure (I work outdoors as a field biologist, so this one is huge. While I usually wear a hat, it does not cover everything as I cannot use a wide brim hat for my work.) CONS: - The tube. It is not awful, but I always seem to get a build up of product in the cap no matter what I do. This seems like a waste of product, but is really a minor complaint. - It does separate, but states clearly to shake before use. It seems to mix easily, so this is not really a con, just a warning to give it a good shake. - Would love an option for an SPF 50, but again, minor complaint. Overall, this is by far the best mineral facial sunscreen I have found so far for my particular skin and is used daily. The only reason I ever use anything else is to try to use them up. Other brands I have tried include: Undefined R&R sun serum SPF 50 ( a little too "glowy", emphasizes pores, and has niacinimide which I have to use with caution), Naked Sundays Collagen Glow mineral sunscreen SPF 50 (heavier and feel it on skin, but is my go-to when I must have SPF 50), CoTZ Flawless Complexion SPF 50 (feels heavy and not waterproof. Also even though I can'y find any chemical boosters in ingredients, something in this one makes my skin feel like it is on fire when in the sun), Cocokind daily SPF 32 (ok for a non tinted formula as not much whitecast, but does feel heavier than I would like), Murad City Skin Age Defense SPF 50 ( just too expensive), Koh Gen Do Watery Spa UV SPF 50 (my go-to non tinted formula these days though I still feel it on my skin and not waterproof and think it has been reformulated recently), Vanicream Facial Moisturizer SPF 30 (too thick and heavy), Hero Force Shield SPF 30 (was my favorite next to the Sun Bum until I realized the reaction in the sun was from the chemical booster Butyloctyl salicylate 😩), Agency SilkScreen SPF 50 (was ok, a bit too greasy and not much coverage, but went to back of pack as it has chemical boosters), Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Pure Mineral SPF 50 (I loved this formula and purchased several times before finally learning the reaction in the sun was from chemical boosters), Cetaphil Sunscreen Face Drops SPF 50 (quit using due to flaming face in sun as this one also has chemical boosters), and Etude Sunprise SPF 50 (only used ocassionally due to fragrance, but liked this formula until I clued into chemical boosters).
